Neak ‘KWESBAAR’ Album Is Smooth Jazzy Hip Hop Lyrical Classic

Neak KWESBAAR album is a smooth yet jazzy Hip Hop lyrical classic! I got in tune with Neak’s music after first hearing him on a dope track “Tryna Get It” from Philmore Greene’s Chicago: A Third World City album. Then producer Rashid Hadee mentioned his work on the top of the list of projects he’s completing in an interview with Celebrity Myxer. That was recommendation enough… I was on it!

Right off, you notice how smooth and melodic his flow is. The Chicago-native rapper lends heavy on his exceptional lyrical rhyme skills, flowetic messages that hit, silky flow and jazzy infused Hip Hop beat production. In an era dominated by hard-hitting trap music, it’s quite refreshing to hear something smooth enough to ride & vibe to when you’re with your Blueprint track four to the right (catch that Skyzoo/Jay-Z decode?)

It was a struggle identifying my favorite tracks so here’s a few joints that stand our for me…

Do It For Love” features Rita J. it’s an uptempo feel-good joint reminiscent of classic “People Everyday” by Arrested Development in my opinion. The duo go back and forth spittin’ as well as chanting the hook.

War” featuring Rashid Hadee is a straight fire head-bobber.  Hadee is not only genius behind the boards- but a dope lyricist spittin’ double entendres and thought provoking metaphors… he goes hard on this title.

Gold” features Peter Jericho. I must admit I really dig Jericho’s music. He has a unique voice and in this track he reminds me of Dwele in the way he talks it out then flips to vocals. It’s a phonetic illustration of material riches and their affects in our culture.

My father raised me though, my siblings hate me for it. They father’s didn’t visit much and I don’t know the story. I seen how women can hold back a child, kill his soul, make a father run away, tell a child he don’t want to, be involved when really it’s unresolved love, that lingers on and never been addressed and move on. A major lesson is can you live with regrets? The price you pay when you skeet…

Lost Fathers” featuring Erthe St. James is a real jazz number turned conscious Hip Hop with a valid effective message. The emcee rhymes about his own experience growing up with his father in his life, however, lyrically illustrates a common plague of many in this country not having their fathers in their lives. The most heartfelt part of the song is the injected poetic interlude from Prentice Powell talking fatherhood and the perspective onlookers see from social media. However, he pours out his soul in turmoil. This song is a must listen… all seven minutes of it!

Conclusion

Neak KWESBAAR is a dope album. If you have a desire for something smooth, something different, something more than bass-bangers. Or want to use your brain to decode lines rather than listening to simple literal illustrations, or getaway from music with only a catchy beat or bridge… then you should definitely check it out. My only gripe is that his music can be a little too laid back. Meaning, it becomes background sound you’re hearing at times rather than music you’re actively listening to. That aside, it’s still a solid classic disc. You can purchase the album here or cop the limited edition vinyl here.
