Warning… Spoilers below!
On Titans Season 4 Episode 1 Premiere, on the way to Metropolis, the Titans stop by a bowling alley and bond over milkshakes. Starfire tells Dick she can’t believe they saved Gotham, and he claims it was mostly luck. Dick tells her she seems different, and she says that she feels free now that her life is truly her own.
At the alley, Dick gets a call from Bruce Wayne, and he gives them the news that Superman wants to meet Conner in Metropolis and that they need to be at STAR labs by 9 AM. Elsewhere, Lex Luthor enters the Temple of Azarath, planning to increase his power using an ancient ritual.
When the keepers of the temple tell Luthor he’ll be more powerful than Superman, he fires them all and supplies the temple with his own henchman. Ms. Bennet, one of the temple keepers insists that the power comes at a cost, and warns him that someone will have to pay the price.
That night, Sebastian, a taxidermist who talks to his subjects, practices a speech about how he’s going to change the world. In a small apartment in the city, a woman is terrified when the noodles she’s eating turn to blood in her mouth, and a roaring figure in a mask slits her throat.
At the bowling alley, Conner worries about what to say to his father, while Rachel watches her nearby milkshake turn to blood. At the taxidermist, Sebastian’s animals begin to bleed from the eyes. The next day, the Titans finally reach Metropolis and Star Labs, ready to meet Superman.
At the labs, they meet the director of Star Labs whose very excited to show the Titans what they’ve been working on. Unfortunately, the director tells Conner that Superman has been called away on important business, although he left a letter apologizing to Conner for leaving.
In the lab, the scientists present Gar with a suit that’ll change as he does. When he uses it, he finds himself in front of a tree hung with skulls in the desert. When he opens his eyes, he’s accidentally destroyed the lab by turning into a gorilla, velociraptor, and armadillo.
Gar is shocked that he caused so much damage without knowing it, but he tries to forget the incident and the tree he saw. In the next lab, Conner gets to explore a lab built just for Superman and his abilities. Inside, he watches his father travel to save an entire galaxy.
What We Do
Conner is inspired by his father’s heroism, while Kory and Rachel experiment with their skills in another lab. Kory’s new powers allow her to split the hardest subject known to man, and the scientist tells her she’s capable of much more once she gets a handle on them.
Next, Dick and the lab gift Tim with a bo staff for practice, and the scientists show the Titans their new tricked-out RV and a beautiful new car from Bruce Wayne. Back on the road, Tim clearly has a crush on Bernard the Star Labs scientist who gave him the bo staff.
Before they can get very far, the RV is hacked and Lex Luthor speaks directly into Conner’s mind using some kind of soundwave. When he recovers, he tells Dick they need to turn around so he can return to Metropolis, but Dick warns him that Lex is more dangerous than other men.
Conner is determined to meet Lex Luthor since he’s his other father. Dick is cautious but agrees that Conner should meet him once they’ve gotten some information on him. While Lex is eating, Kory breaks into his compound and takes out his security as he calmly drinks his wine.
Once security is taken care of, Kory meets Lex, who tries to taunt her about Tamaran. Kory taunts him right back about always being second best, and he takes her on a tour. Eventually, she hacks his computer and finds out he wants Conner to stay in Metropolis with him.
Lex claims that he wants to raise Conner to take over as president of LexCorp, but Kory warns him that Conner is his own person, not a personal weapon for Lex to exploit. Luthor claims that’s what the Titans are doing, and sends ninjas after Dick who he can see from his building.
Dick fights off all of the ninjas, but Lex tells him he expects an answer from Conner tonight. He can decide whether to stay with Lex for six months or go back home with the Titans. Dick realizes that Lex Luthor has six months to live, which is why he wants Conner to take over.
Meanwhile, Gar, Rachel, and Conner explore the Daily Planet archives to understand more about Lex’s life and motives. Rachel continues to feel a dark presence near her and wanders off during their research, finding a box dripping with blood that disappears when Gar finds her.
Rachel warns Gar that something terrible is about to happen and that they should not have come back to Metropolis. When Kory and Dick meet the rest of the Titans, Conner has been reading about Lex’s philanthropy, and he’s shocked to hear Lex has kryptonite poisoning.
Dick thinks Lex wants Conner to give him a blood transfusion so he can live, and he and Kory warn him about how dangerous Luthor is. Conner is desperate to know his father and the reasons behind his creation and he thinks staying with Lex is the best way to find out.
Conner apologizes for leaving the Titans, but he’s sure that he has to save his father. Kory understands that Conner wants to know his story, but she’s worried that men like Lex Luthor do nothing but destroy things. As the Titans leave Metropolis in the RV, Conner meets Lex.
At their meeting, Luthor tells Conner that putting his own desires above the team makes him even more like his father than he’d want to admit. When Conner asks about his illness, Luthor explains that he’s already tried to use Conner’s DNA to heal himself, and it didn’t work.
We Should Not Have Come Back To Metropolis
Luthor tells Conner he’s the only one who will ever understand him, who won’t judge him. He claims that once the world knows he’s part Luthor, they won’t celebrate him anymore. He also tells Conner that he created him to live out his own dreams of being Superman through him.
Lex says that he wants to give Conner the chance to know him before he dies. After, Conner should be able to choose his own path about who he wants to be once and for all. Lex opens a book containing pictures of the dark-masked figure that killed the woman in her apartment.
Far away, Sebastian the taxidermist begins to choke randomly, and when he recovers there’s a darker version of him staring in the mirror. At the same time, Lex Luthor begins to choke and cough blood as well, and Rachel begins screaming on the RV as Lex coughs up a giant snake.
Conner manages to grab the snake and burn it to death, but he’s found with Lex’s dead body and blood all over the floor. Men come in to take him away as Ms. Bennet, the woman Lex fired from the temple of Azarath stands outside and claims that someone always pays the price.
