Big Sean and Wild ‘n Out’s Pretty Vee were recently honored as AT&T’s 2023 Black Future Makers. This prestigious honor is a part of the Dream In Black initiative, highlighting African American thinkers. culture shapers, influencers, activists, and entrepreneurs who move the culture forward.
Alexus Renee recently interviewed comedian, actress, and influencer, Pretty Vee, who hosted the Black Future Makers ceremony at AT&T’s flagship Michigan Ave store on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. We learned that the funny gal is not just a pretty face, but brains and talent accompany her smile.
When Pretty Vee was asked what does being a Black Future Maker mean to her, she stated, “It’s boldness! Putting yourself out there and [if] you fail, just pick yourself back up and keep going. A delay is never a denial!” And this is evident in her tenacity when she was initially declined for MTV’s Wild ‘n Out. She auditioned again and made the show in 2019 and has been a staple cast member ever since.
Besides comedy, Pretty Vee loves to dance. She trained in ballot for seven years. Most recently, she has been expanding her acting career by landing a lead role in a feature film, and she is filming for Issa Rae’s Rap Sh!t on HBO Max.
Vee is an advocate for mental health. She hosted the AT&T event and moderated a discussion panel among black leaders about the importance of mental health in the Black community.
Also, at this exciting event, fans were able to see Big Sean perform a medley of his hits including “Blessings” featuring Drake, “Bounce Back,” and “Deep Reverence” featuring the late Nipsey Hussle. We learned that his grandmother was part of a historic battalion in World War I and his family was awarded a Congressional gold medal for her efforts. Additionally, a feature film is in production, highlighting the valiant efforts of the battalion. Big Sean took some time to dedicate his song “One Man Can Change the World” to her.
