The Old Man Season 2 Release Date
While FX hasn’t yet released an air date for the second season of The Old Man, the renewal came only three episodes into the season, meaning the showrunners have known it’s coming back since June 27th. The second season will most likely release in the early summer of 2023.
At the moment, we can assume that all of the main characters who survive the season finale (July 21, 2022, at 10 pm ET on FX, on Hulu Fridays) will be back in season two. As a bonus, we’ll hopefully see fresh faces like Zoe’s estranged husband or Stuart, Chase’s assistant.
The Old Man finale airs on Thursday, July 21st, 2022, at 10 pm ET on FX and will be available to watch on Hulu the next day. Check back on Celebrity Myxer Thursday for a recap of the season one finale and updated information on season two casting decisions, air date, and more!
Previously On The Old Man Season 1
Let’s get right to the point… The Old Man has been renewed for season two by FX! Its excellent news after season one prompted serious questions about all of the main characters. Dan Chase’s journey to overcome his past and protect his daughter will continue in season two.
The Old Man is based on a stand-alone thriller of the same name, written by Award Winning author Thomas Perry (The Butcher, The Left-Handed Twin). While the book is somewhat similar, there are plenty of differences between its plot and the show’s plot.
Dan Chase, an ex-CIA agent who left the agency on less than friendly terms, has spent the last few decades living in hiding. Surviving with his mysterious wife Abbey under multiple assumed names, Chase must reckon with his past after she dies of Huntington’s disease.
Harold Harper, current Assistant Director of Counter Intelligence for the FBI and longtime frenemy of Dan Chase, is asked to hunt him down when their mutual enemy wants him dead. Harold might be the only one who can find Dan Chase, but there are things even he doesn’t know.
What To Expect On The Old Man Season 2
So far in season one, we’ve discovered some shocking facts about Dan Chase (aka Johnny) and Abbey Chase (aka Belour Daadfar). We still don’t know exactly why she left Faraz Hamzad, but we know she was spying with the Soviets to help his cause without his knowledge.
We’ve also learned some interesting facts about Harold Harper and his assistant Angela, who is actually Chase’s secret daughter Emily. Not to mention Chase and Harper’s mysterious father Morgan Bote, who planted Emily in Harold’s office and eventually kidnapped her from both of them.
Top Questions About The Old Man TV Series
The most pressing questions we have for the season one finale and season two are surrounding Faraz Hamzad and what he wants from Chase and Harold. Hamzad could obviously simply be angry about losing his wife, but the conflict seems more meaningful than that to me.
There’s also the mystery of how Morgan Bote is involved and the operations of his various assassins. Julian Carson and his brother, both Bote’s assassins, worried in episode VI that Bote was losing his touch. Can Bote be defeated, and if so, who could take his place?
Chase’s past with Abbey/Belour, both younger and older, is still mostly a mystery to us. We’ve seen her accusing stare in his dreams, and from Chase’s words, it’s clear something happened that made it hard for either of them to ever look at each other the same way again.
We also need to know what Angela/Emily is going to choose. Will she end up taking the fall for Harold to try and protect him? Or will she leave his side to help her father, who she hasn’t seen in person for years? How does Zoe, a curious divorcee, and potential new target fit into all this?
One shocker we learned is that Emily/Angela is Faraz Hamzad’s daughter!
