Disney’s The Lion King is one of the most anticipated movies of the year! This new movie marks the 25th anniversary of the original film. It’s a live-action version starring the voices of James Earl Jones as Musafa, Donald Glover as adult Simba, JD McCrary as young Simba, Beyoncé as adult Nala, Shahadi Wright Joseph as young Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi and John Kani as Rafiki.

Disney’s photo-realistic cinematography remake to the classic 1994 movie was amazing. In some of the scenes you could not decipher if it was real action or live-action… it was just that good. It allowed for the camera angles to go far beyond what could be accomplished in real action cinema. Bravo for that! However, the film has received mixed reviews. Myself, I would have desired them either append to the story or sequel it from Simba son’s perspective. For someone who saw the original, reinventing the original did not surpass it from a narrative perspective. Visually… yes!

Though, I love how the film centers around “fatherhood.” We see the young cub cling to his father for everything from security, life lessons and advice. And the music we epic. They did all of the original numbers including “Hakuna Matata,” “Circle Of Life,” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.” Beyoncé released new music as well as a music video for “Spirit” for the film’s soundtrack The Lion King: The Gift.

The Lion King dominated the opening weekend box offices, bringing in $185 million. It opened last week in China raking in $98 million, while overseas tallies another $269.4 million, totaling $531 million worldwide for the franchise according to ComScore.
