Tragedy strikes the hospital as Dr. Lim is stabbed, and Nurse Villanueva is killed by her ex-husband!
Warning… Spoilers below!
On The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 1 Premiere, we open to six hours after Dr. Lim and Nurse Dalisay Villanueva were stabbed. Shaun was covered in blood and spaced out. Dr. Glassman helped snap him to reality. The beautiful highlight of Shaun and Lea’s wedding day is soiled by devastation!
The Aftermath
We’re jolted into the intense conclusion of the aftermath of Lim and Dalisay being stabbed by Dalisay’s ex-husband.
Shaun and Lea were enjoying their first dance, and Lim woke to find Dalisay bleeding out. She managed to call Dr. Andrews, who was in an elevator, and the call was interrupted.
They were on the elevator with Dalisay’s ex-husband (portrayed by Terry Chen). Andrews noticed blood on his neck and shoes and casually questioned him about it. Of course, he lied. When he exited, he was confronted by security guards. He stabbed the guard and took his gun, shooting at any guard approaching. They locked down the hospital!
Shaun insisted on helping, and so did Dr. Allen and Lea. They found Lim and Dalisay and started to assist them. Soon Andrews and Glassman joined to help stabilize them and rush them to the OR.
Dr. Park called Dr. Reznick from outside, she was upset that he had left. Reznick and Dr. Wolke found a man who they suspected was the shooter, yet he suffered violent stomach pains. They helped get him to a safe room.
Lea was forced to be a nurse, assisting the physicians with surgery. She was tearful that this is the aftermath of her wedding day. Yet she had to be strong for her colleagues.
Overriding Executive Decisions
While operating on Lim, Glassman made an executive decision to save Lim’s life. Shaun rebutted because the technique would limit her life expectancy by removing half of her liver. He left Shaun to do as he commanded. However, Shaun ignored that decision. Glassman was pulled to Andrews, who was operating on Dalisay, and made a similar decision.
When Glassman returned, he was upset that Shaun disregarded his order. There was no other choice but to proceed with Shaun’s decision. There was a small complication, but the procedure was successful.
The man who was with Reznick and Wolke started to go into shock, so Wolke snuck around for supplies to treat him. Wolke was caught by the gunman! He asked what were the supplies for, and Wolke told him they needed to operate on the man or else he would die.
The gunman used Wolke as a shield to exit and shot at SWAT, who were approached. They backed into the room where Reznick was, and Dalisay’s ex-husband yelled at authorities not to enter because he had three hostages! Wolke and Reznick pleaded the urgency of the man’s surgery, but he demanded they do perform it in that room… she needed to make a call.
Override
Nurse Jerome was informed that his boyfriend, Wolke, was one of the hostages. He focused on helping Dalisay in surgery.
Reznick phoned Park for surgical assistance. Ultimately, the gunman let Reznick and the man go since surgery couldn’t be performed in the room successfully. Wolke was forced to stay.
Ironically, the gunman asked about Dalisay’s condition and opened up to Wolke about his abusive father, vowing not to follow his actions but ironically did. Wolke shared that his father was dying, and there was no time to repair their rift. Yet Dalisay-ex had time to make amends.
Lim was awake, and surgeons briefed her. She tried to move and suffered complications. It was her heart!
Wolke reasoned with the man to turn himself in. He completely disarmed the pistol and gave the ammunition to Wolke, asking whether Dalisay was still alive. Wolke wasn’t sure. The gunman walked into the hallway with the empty gun, aimed at SWAT, they shot him!
Wolke rushed the gunman to the OR for treatment. However, the team was faced with a dilemma. They were short on blood supply. Andrews and Glassman were in agreement to place the gunman (instead of Lim) on a bypass machine. Shaun vehemently disagreed since he caused all of the issues. Andrews and Glassman trumped Shaun for their oath to save lives…
Focused
The surgery was much more difficult for Lim without the bypass machine. Shaun warned Andrews and had a panic attack. He was escorted out and had a vision of his brother, who died when they were younger, while playing on a train.
Glassman was pulled back into surgery, yet the team needed Shaun’s expertise on the surgery, so they Facetimed him. However, he had visions of his brother, who convinced him to save Lim. That’s when he started to focus, he had one of his visions and knew how to help save Dr. Lim.
Shaun returned to the OR and advised surgeons of the technique needed to save Lim, and she stabilized.
Immobilized
The hospital was safe for reopening. Wolke and Jerome professed their love for each other. Both Dalisay and her ex-husband were saved.
Shaun confessed to Lea that he saw his brother, Steve, and he told him that his death wasn’t his fault. Something that has been haunting Shaun for years. He also confessed he wouldn’t have been able to save Lim without her help. He was thankful she was his wife.
Park and Reznick embraced each other. Reznick changed her mind about leaving for the job. Park told her to reconsider because he knew she chose her career over their relationship. He was convinced she wouldn’t change… that’s who she was.
When Lim recovered, she couldn’t feel her legs. She was paralyzed…
