Rayshard Brooks was murdered on Friday, June 12th, 2020, by Atlanta Police. The killing was captured on video, again, illustrating excessive force, police brutality, and another Black man dying as a result!

Rayshard Brooks was 27 years old. His social media caption states he was an intern with the Atlanta Falcons. Brooks was sleeping in his car at a Wendy’s drive-through. Although other patrons could go around him, police were called.

The officers claim he failed a field sobriety test. TMZ obtained a copy of the graphic video. In the video, you can see two officers wrestle with Brooks trying to arrest him. He grabbed one officer’s taser to avoid being stunned. Yet you can see Brooks get up to run away and the other officer tased him in the back. The second officer shot him in the back 3 times as he ran away.

How is this not excessive force? Let’s assume he was drinking and driving and fell asleep. The worst punishment he should’ve received was arrest for DUI, license suspension, and years of monetary damage thereafter. Not to be murdered for resisting arrest in an era of police killings gone rampant. Not to mention global protests for the very same actions.

Many question, why would Rayshard Brooks try to run. If you’re not Black you would never have to fear Racial profiling by police. Never fear false arrest. Never fear if you’re arrested you would die in police custody. If you faced these challenges, you probably would flee to give yourself a running chance.

This needs to stop. And until police are held accountable for their excessive use of force it will continue to happen to Black people.

This is the 48th reported officer-involved shooting in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Protests in Atlanta are underway in his behalf. We will keep you updated in this case because justice is deserved!

• Rayshard Brooks funeral was televised on BET.
• The ex-cop who Ex-cop who murdered Brooks was indicted on 11 counts including felony murder, other officer will cooperate with State’s Attorney against ex-partner!
• The two have surrenderedinto custody.
• Devin Bronsan is recommended $50,000 bond, while Garrett Rolfe is recommended no bond.
• The New York Post obtained the bodycam video just before the fatal shooting. It shows Brooks having a casual conversation for more than 40 minutes with the officers before an arrest. He was always peaceful and “posed no threat” according to the State’s Attorney filing charges.
• The murdering officer’s name is Garrett Rolfe.
• The cop who killed Rayshard was fired, the second cop was put on administrative leave.
• The Wendy’s where Brooks was killed was burned down. A major interstate was shut down as protestors march onto it.
• Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields resigns.
