On New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 22 Finale, Max is on the phone with Helen who is heading to the airport. Max is going to pick up Luna and head to the Botanical Gardens. The news, that is on in the background, is a warning of an approaching Category 3 hurricane.
Iggy tells Martin that he doesn’t need to be saved anymore, and Martin says Iggy uses being broken like a crutch and loves it. Lauren and Leyla kiss heading into work, where they hear the news that Hurricane Alba has just been upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane. Lower Manhattan is being asked to evacuate.
Iggy Takes Charge
Lauren is trying to prepare for Hurricane Alba and goes to see New Amsterdam’s Medical Director, Dr. Langford. Dr. Langford is not prepared and isn’t familiar with the hospital’s layout. Lauren calls Floyd, who is busy tracking his father down. Floyd doesn’t want to be part of the Emergency Response Team. Elizabeth and every other Department Head Lauren asks tells her no. Iggy steps up and offers to assist and takes control of the Emergency Response Team.
Floyd shows up at his father’s apartment and Mrs. Carnegie lets him in, thinking he is there to help prepare for the hurricane. Horace doesn’t acknowledge that Floyd is his son and puts Floyd to work.
As Iggy orders everything nailed down, April is rushed into the ER with symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. Lauren recognizes a sex trafficking tattoo on April! Max sees a man get crushed on the streets by his street cart and runs to help. Iggy is following the book to the letter when the power goes out and windows start breaking.
Iggy leads all the patients to the safest place, the inner stairwell, and Elizabeth brings up the rear. Max brings Fareed, the man he found on the street, in for treatment and sees the hospital in crisis and a total disaster. Lauren is trying to evacuate everyone.
Floyd and his father are prepping when the wall cracks and Mrs. Carnegie is knocked down and pinned. She can’t breathe. Max can’t get a hold of Helen and notices Fareed has blood in his urine. Fareed needs dialysis.
When Iggy and everyone he’s leading reaches the inner stairwell, everyone begins exhibiting symptoms. Gladys starts vomiting, Iggy can’t breathe, and a patient passes out.
Written In Red
Elizabeth notices a carbon monoxide leak inside the inner stairwell. Mrs. Carnegie needs surgery now, and Floyd tells his father to help him prep.
Iggy bumps into Max and is so happy. Iggy thinks Max is there to take charge and Max says no, Iggy is in charge. Max has to get Fareed to the 6th floor, and with no power to the elevator and the inner stairwell filled with carbon monoxide, Max uses the outside stairs with the hurricane brewing.
Lauren tells April to go into the bathroom and leave a urine sample. There is a note for April on the door that says if April needs help, to write her name in red on the urine sample instead of black. April gives Lauren the urine sample back with April’s name written in red!
Iggy and everyone he’s following is trying to get to the Emergency Department Overflow, where they can be treated. They find the doors blocked, and a live electrical line is right next to the water in the hallway.
Lauren Gets Called A Liar
Iggy says they need to shut off the backup generators. He has to pass the live wire to get to the generators, though. Franklin needs Horace’s help in fixing Mrs. Carnegie’s broken rib cage. Mrs. Carnegie still can’t breathe, so Floyd pops a pen in her airway.
Lauren tells April she needs surgery, and the man with her says a nurse just came in and told them April can take pills to end the pregnancy. He calls Lauren a liar and says April will just take the pills.
Max gets Fareed to the 6th floor for dialysis and hooked up just as Iggy cuts the backup generators. Max still hasn’t heard from Helen. As the man tries to leave with April, Lauren and Leyla distract him and switch April out with someone else, and the cops show up. Lauren hides with April in the supply closet.
Max knows without power and supplies, he cannot save Fareed. Fareed starts telling Max to tell his family goodbye for him when the power comes back on. Max tries to trace Helen’s plane, only to find there is no flight record.
Stood Up At The Altar
An ambulance shows up to pick Mrs. Carnegie up, and Floyd tells Horace he needs answers. Horace says he doesn’t have any, and Floyd walks away. Horace calls out that he needs a shoulder doctor and asks Floyd to call him with some references. Floyd says he will call him.
Lauren tells April that Shonda will be her social worker and help her transition. April is scared about leaving the other girls but is going to be brave.
Martin shows up at the hospital, and Iggy tells Martin that he led New Amsterdam’s Response Team. Martin does not understand why he would do something so risky. Iggy tells Martin that Martin is holding him back. Martin tells Iggy to move out! Lauren tells Leyla that the money she loaned Leyla, has tainted the relationship and Lauren will move out.
Max receives an alert that says Helen’s flight has landed. Helen texts Max that she will call him as soon as she can. The Botanical Gardens isn’t an option anymore, but Floyd knows the perfect place. Everyone helps set up New Amsterdam’s roof for Max and Helen’s wedding. Max’s phone rings. Helen never got on the flight! Helen is not coming!
