Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 22 “A Final Call at Forlini’s Bar”
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 21, a woman confessed her infidelity to the priests of her church. She gave details of how she left her door unlocked for her lover and suddenly she was raped. The blame pointed back to one of two priests she confessed to. SVU decided to catfish the culprit and the bait was taken. However, this was not the correct priest. Carisi pleaded with the man (his childhood friend) to rat on the suspect but he wouldn’t break his confessional oath. SVU sought another way to catch the man admitting his guilt.
Meanwhile, Benson agreed to meet with Burton, who sought to make amends for past transgressions. They found out he had nonconsensual sex with another woman the night Benson confronted him and he chose a voluntary plea deal as punishment for his crimes.
Warning… Spoilers below!
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 22, Captain Olivia Benson spoke with her therapist and he brought up her intimacy issues. He specifically told her that she should see if a relationship with Elliot Stabler would pan out or not…
Meanwhile, Delia Hackman (portrayed by Jordana Spiro) was startled by her ex-husband Ty Hackman (portrayed by Derek Phillip). He had broken into her apartment despite the order of protection. Suddenly, Delia was pounding on a police squad car with a bat. Luckily, Det. Rollins was walking by and saw the encounter, calmed the officers, and the woman. Delia stated, “I didn’t want him to kill me!”
While at the hospital, Delia wanted to be locked up so her ex-husband wouldn’t get to her. Police picked Ty up to speak with him but he got off, again. Suddenly, Rollins got a video call from Delia asking to lessen the order of protection then became brief, getting off the phone. SVU suspected Ty was in her home right now. (Surely, he was and he was demanding her to drop the order of protection.)
Police arrested Ty on sexual assault charges. He claimed she wanted sex and it was consensual. Delia was adamant about making excuses for Ty. Benson pleaded for her to work with them to get Ty out of her life for good. Afterward, Benson briefed Carisi and he asked had she spoken with Rafael Barba (portrayed by Raúl Esparza). Remember Barba was Richard Wheatley’s lawyer who helped him get out of RICO and murder charges! Benson was still upset that he defended Wheatley and came at her hard when she was on the witness stand.
Ty got out on bail. Later on, SVU got a call to Ty’s house, Ty was found dead on the floor with a knife in his back and Delia was there! Delia told detectives he came over, took her phone charger, and that she, “just wanted to be free!”
When Delia was interrogated, she explained how her phone was on one percent, he tried to make her give him oral sex, then he went to make her a drink to relax. She went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife then stabbed him. When asked why did it take her 30 minutes to call anyone, she claimed she needed her phone to charge. When it did, she called Rollins.
Benson spoke with Carisi and Trial Division Chief Lorraine Maxwell (portrayed by Betty Buckley). Delia’s fate was grime since women in her position wind up either dead or go to jail being represented by a public defender.
Benson took her concerns to her team and Rollins hinted that there was one lawyer who could help Delia so she called him. Later on, Benson met with Barba but couldn’t face him for long- still in disgust of him…
Barba has always been quite the formidable foe for Carisi, and Barba played Chess with the prosecution. It was odd that Benson was Carisi’s witness yet seemed to testify for Barba. Benson stated she was testifying on Delia’s behalf. Afterward, Rollins confessed to Carisi that she asked Barba to represent Delia… not Benson.
When Delia took the stand, Carisi went for the jugular by asking why she went to her abusive ex-husband’s phone in the middle of the night. He didn’t have a weapon, and she could have fled. Carisi asked was she happy after he was dead and Delia said yes. She broke down on the stand and gripped her head claiming pain…
The Last Call
The defense threw a curveball at the prosecution by claiming she suffered from CTE. They had an expert confirm the diagnosis. Chief Maxwell got involved in the case and proved that CTE was typically discovered postmortem. Barba was masterful in his arguments from that point on. So much so that the prosecution offered him a deal…
Afterward, Benson personally thanked Barba for defending her. Benson was happy Delia was getting the help she needed. Then the conversation shifted towards Wheatley and how she felt betrayed.
He was baffled why she was more upset at him than Stabler. Though they bickered, Benson told him, “I missed you too…”
