Welcome to Marwen tells the miraculous true story of one broken man’s fight as he discovers how artistic imagination can restore the human spirit. Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) was attacked and injured severely. Damage from the melee caused him to lose all of his memories. His only way to heal himself was to create a world made of action figure dolls in a World War II setting. Significant people in his life were made into action figures- most of the women were his personal saviors. The photos he captured of his world were of heroism conquering evil representations in his life.
Hogancamp’s trials to triump was captured in an award winning documentary called Marwencol. It has been brought to the big screen in a creative way by the same Academy Award winning director who brought us Forrest Gump, Flight and Cast Away. Robert Zemeckis infuses live acting and 3D animation in such a wonderful way to help viewers step into the world of Hogancamp.
