At the 2019 BET Awards, entertainment mogul Tyler Perry will be honored with the “Ultimate Icon Award.” Tyler Perry, the world-renowned producer, director, actor, screenwriter, playwright and author, built his entertainment empire up from meager beginnings. It all started from advice from Oprah Winfrey– to put your ideas on paper and execute them. We all know and love his works from plays, films, television series and award-winning novels. We equally love the iconic character he created… Madea. Her stage to screen, gun-touting, hard teaching life lessons have been of great value in our pop culture. Perry has also produced great television works series including shows like “House of Payne” and “The Haves and The Have Nots.” In movies, Tyler is pioneering a shift in film entertainment… watch out Hollywood and New York! In 2006, he built a 200,000-square-foot studio in Atlanta, which during its operation was home to over 15 films and 800 episodes of Perry’s five television series. It also houses many other shows and awards events.
