‘They Call Me Dad’ Celebrates Black Fatherhood, Airs On OWN

OWN Spotlight: They Call Me Dad is a one-hour special paying homage to black fatherhood by exploring some of the most renowned black celebrity fathers out there. This episode will feature Master P (music mogul), Derek Luke (actor), Marvin Sapp (singer/songwriter), and Tristan Mack Wilds (actor). The premiere is set to air on Tuesday, September 14 at 9 pm ET via OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network).

Premise

The show will look at what it means to be a father. Being in the limelight while offering children opportunities that they would not otherwise be entitled to is a challenge in and of itself. We will discover what sacrifices each parent had to make and how they instilled responsibility into the next generation by being an example for them to follow.

The audience will get an insight into the men behind the camera and their lives that we do not get to see. We will discover their rise from humble beginnings, delve into their homes, backgrounds, and most of all, how each individual embraced fatherhood.

Not everything is rosy, as we will go on to find out. We will see the happy moments and those which were often hard to take. But it is all part of learning and growing which is what this show promises to be about.
