Set in the 1960s in New York/New Jersey— amid the gang wars between the African-American and Italian counterparts— the movie focuses on the life and rise of Anthony ‘Tony’ Soprano. As a youngster growing up amongst rival gang factions, Tony made it his mission to take on the ultimate DiMeo criminal family.

His rise was aided by those closer to home. Tony’s uncle, Dickie Moltisanti’s struggle to make a name for himself in the world, led him to become the fully-fledged Tony Soprano that we all know today.

Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his nephew will help make the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano. — Warner Bros. If the Sopranos series has shown us anything, this film promises much. The former won all the accolades that could have been feasibly possible, racking up an impressive 21 Emmy Awards, 5 Golden Globe Awards, and 2 Peabody Awards. And that is only half of it. The anticipation for this movie is brewing, as director Alan Taylor had also worked on the Sopranos’ success.
