‘Spiderhead,’ stars Chris Hemsworth in the sci-fi-thriller film based on the book written by George Saunders. Hemsworth plays the lead character Steve Abnesti, a science researcher in charge of a prison facility that dabbles in experiments using mood-altering drugs.
Joseph Kosinski directs the movie, while Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are in charge of the screenplay. The movie is set to air on Friday, 17th June 2022 via Netflix.
Spiderhead
The film is centered around two prison inmates Jeff (Miles Teller) and Rachel (Jurnee Smollet). Both have made the decision to have their sentences reduced in exchange for agreeing to undergo some medical experiments.
There are a few slight catches, though. They must be taken to a remote island known as ‘Spiderhead’ where there is limited access. Not only that but in doing so, Jeff and Rachel have to experiment with mood-altering drugs.
It is not your state-of-the-art prison facility, however. The inmates are free to walk around wherever they please, but as they do so, the surgically attached device that has been inserted on their person administers the mind-altering drug.
“In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too.”
And as things happen when two people spend time together alone, Jeff and Rachel strike up a close bond. So much so that Steven’s experiments have now been put in jeopardy.
His desire to make the world a ‘better place’ is compromised by his scientific delusions of grandeur. And as the other inmates get their sanity tested to the limit, Jeff goes out of his way to look out for Rachael and get her out of ‘Spiderhead.’
As he does so, Steven’s true intentions for doing the experiments will come to the fore. So will they make it out of ‘Spiderhead’ in one piece, if at all?
