Salt N Pepa Movie Premieres On Lifetime

The Salt N Pepa movie is a biopic about the rise and struggles of one of the first iconic female Hip Hop groups. Salt-N-Pepa was the first platinum-selling female Hip Hop act. They were also the first female rap group to win a Grammy. We can expect to see how the duo rose in the industry and created their own lane- thus paving the way for many female rappers behind them. Of course, we’ll see the makings of quintessential songs we love such as “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “What a Man,” “Shoop” and “Push It.” The movie airs on January 23rd at 8 pm EST on Lifetime.

“Men can hold us back. If they can make money off of us, we can make money off of us!” —Salt-N-Pepa

It was the mid-’80s. And back then, the top names in Hip Hop were acts like Run D.M.C., MC Hammer, Whodini, and the Beastie Boys. There were no women in rap, their roles were better suited for R&B. Salt-N-Pepa sought to changed all of that when they debuted. I all kicked off after the pair recorded a song for their friend Hurby Azor. They were bold, unashamed, and unafraid to speak about sex and share their thoughts about men.

Clad in those classic eight-ball jackets, the group pushed out the hit tune that is still popular in pop culture and media today. In fact, “Push It” even going viral as a couple remixed their own version of the song to deliver their baby. Relive the song with this video…

The Ladies Night stars kept it so much about girl power- their DJ was a woman. DJ Spinderella was inducted into the group. The ladies are still going strong performing as a group presently. Of course, they have ventured into more executive roles producing their biopic, as well as starring in reality television shows. Following the movie release is an aftershow called Salt-N-Pepa Interview Special.

Salt-N-Pepa sits down for a fun and intimate discussion about what makes their iconic partnership work, how these two very different personalities find the delicate balance to keep it going, and how their pioneering style continues to influence the music world today. Hosted by Loni Love, the special is packed with never-before-heard stories about their lives and careers and share exclusive BTS footage, with a few surprises and special guests along the way!
