Exclusive Interview With Cast Of Being The Ricardos

We had a chance to participate in a press conference with the cast of Being The Ricardos that was written and directed by Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin. The movie will be in theaters on December 10th and premiere globally on Prime Video on December 21, 2021.

“The first of her kind, one of a kind!”

What we value about this film, it’s not a biopic about Lucille Ball. But rather, a look into their lives dealing with accusations of possibly being a communist, infidelity, pregnancy on television, and a multitude of other things we wouldn’t have known they were dealing with.

As soon Nicole Kidman heard the director’s name and was asked to be in the film, she wanted to be in it because of who was the visionary behind it. That was such personal motivation for me. I can’t wait until I get to that point in my career where you just mention my name and people are just excited to be a part of anything I have going on just because my work has spoken for it.

Nicole Kidman described Lucille Ball as, “The first of her kind, one of a kind!” Nicole’s reason for saying that is because she was the only woman on television in the 50s and 60s with creative decision-making power.

As mentioned, the movie wasn’t a birth-to-death biopic, but more so a story about the overall depiction of the Ricardo’s relationship. It was centered around the wildest week of their lives and had some flashbacks, yet it really showed the essence of who Lucy and Desi (aka the Ricardos) were.

Javier Bardem talked about the exquisite complexity of the script… it was just that good. J.K Simmons shared that there wasn’t much reference material to go off of and how he really internalized the characters to bring them to life. Nina Arianda talked about how her characters had two completely different personalities and she found a way to portray Vivian from a clip only a few seconds long.

Unbeknownst to most of us, Lucille Ball was a trailblazer during her time here on this Earth. She was willing to deal with taboo issues that many may have steered away from. Their show was so popular that they reduced nationwide water consumption during their airtime because the nation was glued to the tube. Lucy and Desi revolutionized the path for modern television. Once you see the film, you’ll know what we’re referring to. After watching this movie filled with Academy Award winners… we think they’re definitely headed for an Oscar! Agree or disagree, tell us your thoughts in the comments!
