Mortal Kombat Movie Synopsis

In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family but to stop Outworld once and for all? –Warner Bros.

From New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. comes the explosive cinematic adventure “Mortal Kombat,” inspired by the blockbuster video game franchise, which recently enjoyed the most successful video game launch in its history.

Taking on a cult-classic video game and turning it into a movie is no mean feat. But if anyone is capable of doing it, then the team which makes up this movie is ready for the task.

Directed by Simon McQuoid, the film has a star-studded team of producers; James Wan (Aquaman), Todd Garner (Into the Storm) and E.Bennett Walsh (Men in Black International) form part of the film project. And the cast is not bad too. By being metropolitan in its nature, the stars are far and wide which includes Lewis Tan (Deadpool), Ludi Lin(Aquaman), and Jessica McNamee (The Meg).

Mortal Kombat Movie 2021 Plot

The movie follows the journey of Cole Young, an MMA fighter, who remains oblivious of his mixed martial arts lineage. Satisfied with just using his skills for financial gain, destiny forces Cole to re-evaluate his whole world view. Shang Tsung—Emperor of the Outworld—is on a mission to eradicate Cole. How will he plan this devious scheme? By sending his henchman and ultimate warrior, Sub-Zero.

Scared by the prospect and swirled in a mountain of emotion, the MMA fighter seeks to fight back. He reaches out to Sonya Blade (Major of the Special Forces) who is part of this martial arts bloodline. Discovering that the lineage is known by a dragon marking, Cole is invited into the Temple of Lord Raiden.

It is here that he is granted protection. Having gained safety for a time, Cole hones his martial arts skills alongside fellow warriors, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Kano. So will the experiences be enough to prepare him for what is to come? Will Cole overcome the Emperor and his sideman Sub-Zero, or will it all end up in vain at the expense of his family?

The movie ticks all the right boxes, but whether it lives up to the hype is another question.
