Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey, Laurene Powell Jobs, Apple, and the Ford Foundation have all pledged millions towards helping feeding America amidst the COVID-19 food insecurity crisis. They are giving to, Americas Food Fund, a GoFundMe campaign organized by DiCaprio and Jobs. The campaign will fund two philanthropic organizations that are supplying hundreds of thousands of fresh meals daily. Those initial beneficiary organizations are World Central Kitchen and Feeding America. The campaign’s goal is $15 million (and at the time of this article they have tipped $12 million dollars.)

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 37 million people struggled to know where their next meal might come from on a daily basis, a number that we are seeing rise at an exponential rate.

Volunteers Preparing Food For Food Banks

Oprah Winfrey recently held a virtual conference with the leaders of the two organizations and pledged $1 million dollars to the fund. Overall, Winfrey is pledging $10 million dollars in pandemic relief efforts. Oprah states, “I am donating $10 million overall to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up.”
