Most box Bron in as only an athlete… But his work goes far beyond the basketball court. LeBron James is more than an athlete- he’s a family man, a businessman, an activist, and philanthropist.
We’re delving into the latter with the opening of I Promise School, a public school founded by James’ foundation in partnership with Akron Public Schools. It is a historic step in uplifting the lives of children and their families in his hometown of Akron Ohio. Initially the school will host 240 children in third and fourth-grades, then add new grade levels each academic year. By 2022, the school expects to educate children from first through eighth grades. The school offers:
- Free tuition
- Free uniforms
- Free bicycle and helmet
- Free transportation within two miles
- Free breakfast, lunch and snacks
- Food pantry for families
- GED and job placement services for families
- Guaranteed tuition to the University of Akron for every student who graduates
James does not want the future generation to grow up like he did, thus he focuses on education as the path to success for youth. The I Promise School is a huge part of the holistic steps his organization started years back with the ‘I Promise’ movement. The non-profit uses events, encouragement and activism to encourage youth to strive in education. To this milestone, we at Celebrity Myxer say bravo to everyone involved in this initiative.
