Previously on Yellowstone Season 4 Episode 7, John is put in an awkward position by Governor Perry. Carter works to earn back Beth’s trust. Jamie is in for a big surprise.

Warning… Spoilers below!

On Yellowstone Season 4 Episode 8, we begin with a flashback at what seems to be John Dutton’s father, John Dutton Sr as a child. Barely being 11 or so, John’s father is surrounded by his mother Margaret Dutton, and his sister around the dinner table.

John Dutton Sr’s father, James happens to be a Sheriff. While proceeding to catch a group of thieves, things do not turn out well as he is shot in the course of his duties.

After arriving home, he collapses on Margaret’s doorstep, with his fate left at the mercy of circumstances. This incident foreshadows another death later in the episode.

And as we shift back to the present, we come across another table scene. Beth, Carter, and Rip are situated at the table with John. But rather than peacefully have some food, John gets annoyed with Beth’s presence. Clearly, he preferred being on his own.

Once Beth departs hurriedly, Rip tries to ascertain what is wrong. Well, Beth always hated family dinners and would rather accept that than playing happy families.

Meanwhile, Beth’s ‘ally’ Summer Higgins has already gotten to work. She is taking on Market Equities, as she decides to occupy the airfield in protest of the expansion plans.

Her results do bear fruit, as Market Equities has to deal with the bad media attention. Beth realizes that she has a vested interest in all of this, that being, to take down Market Equities, decides to take control.

She suggests that the media be removed, and everyone arrested once the cameras are out of sight. Caroline agrees, but unbeknownst to her, Beth has told the media to stay.

Naturally, once the authorities move in with an iron fist, the media is on hand to document it. Knowing that this is going to create a storm, she realizes that the national media will have to report it in favor of the protestors, regardless of what Market Equities’ PR team says… genius!

But it is unclear if this will save Yellowstone. Just as Beth has a plan, things between Kayce and Monica move on to the next stage. As we see Kayce staring at a wolf, he is considering killing it.

But before he can go ahead with those plans, Mo tells him to not do it. But much more than that Kayce is interrupted by Monica, who has some big news. She tells him she is pregnant! They are both thrilled. So much for hunting wolves, then.

Much in the same way, Jimmy and Emily get closer by the minute. The pair end up grabbing dinner, and before you know it, they kiss as they start to get intimate.

Mia not only seems to be a distant memory but so do the struggles of collecting horse semen in the previous episode. We have a new romance on the cards.

Moving towards the political race, John, and Rip head into town. They get a call from Jamie. He has decided to run against John for Governor. He, Garret, and Christina are of the view that John will stand down.

He simply does not have what it takes. So he wants to talk things over with John, who hangs up on Jamie, not before stating that he knows how to find him. John will not go down lightly.

But the drama does not end there. John and Rip were on the way to meet Sheriff Haskell to talk about Riggins. John knows that he was the one involved in the attack on the Duttons, even if someone had ordered him to do it.

He is not messing around, so by meeting Haskell, perhaps he can get rid of him. So much for being patient. As they arrive at a diner to meet the Sheriff, something is odd.

No one is eating any food. It turns out that the Sheriff has been held hostage! John and Rip arm themselves and take out all the gunmen.

Sadly, Haskell is dead. With no Sheriff at the helm, will Kayce take the position? And what does this mean for John’s Governor run? Time will tell…
