During a Genius Talk at the BET Experience rapper Wale, journalist Jeff Johnson and NBA champion Nick Young spoke with Depelsha McGruder (founder of Moms of Black Boys organization) about racial injustices in America today. The core thematic stemmed around having a conversation with the stars to get their prospective thoughts and advice on giving young black males the best chance at succeeding in life. What was impressive- the event started at 9 pm and the crowd was filled with eager young black males awaiting to hear some answers. There were several topics covered including dealing with unjust laws, the definition of freedom in this country and police brutality. “The law says your fear of black boys allows you to kill them,” communications specialist Jeff Johnson spoke on the laws which protect police when excessive use of force is used.
