Previously on Titans Season 4 Episode 3, with Rachel left powerless, Dick turns to an old friend whose magic could be the key to identifying their mysterious enemy. Meanwhile, Conner and Tim investigate attack victims, and Sebastian finds himself at the center of an eerie plot.

Warning… Spoilers below!

On Titans Season 4 Episode 4, in 1996, May aka Ms. Bennet is a secret witch who works at Rotary Resources Group, and her boss, Bryce, ridicules and disrespects her. She can hear the terrible things Bryce says about her in his office, and in anger, her powers make him jump out the window of his office.

The Organization

At the bar after work, May runs into The Messenger who empathizes with her over losing her job again. He shows her his card, he works for The Organization – Rachel’s oldest enemies – and says they cultivate people with special aptitudes, even if they run on the darker side.

On the other side of his card are the words chanted in the temple of Azarath. After a younger May chants Azarath, Metrion, and Zinthos, The Messenger disappears and May begins her work for The Organization, years before Rachel is even conceived.

In the present time, Sebastian is reluctant to trust the Titans, and Dick realizes Mother Mayhem wasn’t going to kill him. Kory shares her dream about the Elko diner and the song that warned her of the red moon but Dick refuses to believe the events are connected to Mayhem.

The Past is Past

In the RV, Jinx tells Conner that Superman is wary of magic, which he doesn’t want to believe. Rachel tries to get Sebastian to warm up to the team, but he’s devastated that he was pulled away from Ms. Bennet and he mentions the red moon in the sky is giving him bad dreams too.

Rachel tries to get Sebastian to open up about Ms. Bennet, and he says that she promised to help him if he would chant the words from the temple. When Rachel asks him for the words, she barely stops him from completing the chant and realizes The Organization is back.

In 1997, May and a coworker from The Organization are asked to meet Him, the leader of The Organization who will teach them to grow and guide their powers. May and the other woman agree, and May promises to keep the other woman safe as they test their faith together.

In 2022, The Titans head out to check out the burned asylum, and Rachel explains her father’s cult and how they thought all the other Organization members were dead, but now it looks like they survived. They explain things to a confused Sebastian, who’s still wary of them all.

Change the Story

When they arrive at where the asylum used to be, it’s been replaced by a Super Super Mart, surrounded by ravens. Rachel is sure there’s something there, and in the back, they find a hidden door that leads inside, without realizing Mother Mayhem is watching them all.

In the temple, Mayhem reminds Gina that old friends have been waiting for this day, and she calls on the hounds of hell to fight for her. Gina reminds her that she and Mayhem changed Kory’s story once before, and Mayhem tells her it’s because they’re stronger than the Titans.

In 1997, May and Gina trust fall back into a pit where He will catch them. Once at the bottom, May and Gina must climb their way back up a huge ladder to Him, and Gina kicks May back down to the bottom, claiming He can only have one queen, and it’s going to be her.

Out of the pit, Gina is led to an underground church where she’ll meet Him for the first time. Instead, she meets May who has managed to survive the fall and climb back up to the top. May offers her forgiveness, and she’s chosen over Gina to receive a gift from Him for her good heart.

Rotten Rewards

At the bottom of the Super Super Mart, the Titans split up to search for any sign of The Organization. Sebastian manages to find an old picture of Gina and May and realizes that they have been watching him for longer than he’s ever known. Kory finds an old fairy tale.

In the fairy tale, Rachel, Kory, and Trigon are all mentioned, and the Titans are in it as well. Dick refuses to believe that the coincidences are connected, and the Titans realize Gina and May must have escaped when the fire broke down the asylum’s security, meaning they let May out.

While searching together, Jinx teases Conner about his father’s aversion to magic and tries to get Connor to doubt himself and whether or not his will is good or bad. Tim finds a bunch of tapes from the Organization, which record Gina and May’s conversations over the years.

Listening to the tapes, they learn that May once gave birth to a boy who wasn’t accepted by The Organization because the prophecy called for a girl. May was muzzled and chained in the basement with her son Sebastian, who she prophesied would one day make the world fall.

Rachel asks Sebastian if he has The Organizations mark on him as she does, and when she finds it on him he begins to panic knowing if the story goes as planned, they’ll all die. Jinx votes they kill Sebastian, but Gar interrupts to tell them the blood moon will expire in 8 hours.

In 2019, after the Titans set fire to The Organization’s asylum, Gina broke May out and they rescued their captor before leaving. In 2022, the Titans are surrounded by May’s thugs, zombies holding all kinds of weapons. Kory’s magic doesn’t work against them, so the fight begins.

While fighting off loads of zombies, Jinx reminds them that they can only die by beheading, so Rachel begins chainsawing zombies’ heads off. While Jinx holds the zombies with her magic, the Titans try to come up with a plan but unfortunately, just then zombie Deathstroke shows up.

Jinx needs time to recharge her magic to take Deathstroke out, but Conner manages to punch Deathstroke’s head off – only for him to pick it up and replace it before coming after them again. With Mayhem controlling him, Deathstroke stabs Conner with something that makes him bleed.

The Story’s Not Over

Next, Dick uses gas to distract Deathstroke while the Titans try to escape with Sebastian. Mayhem isn’t fooled, and after Deathstroke knocks out Dick he captures who he thinks is Sebastian, but is actually Jinx. Inside the van, she stabs him in the eye, killing him again.

After taking out Deathstroke, the Titans pick up Jinx and leave the asylum behind. Back at Star Labs, Bernard tells the Titans they’ll be safe, but Conner is slowly being killed by whatever Deathstroke stabbed him with. After vomiting blood, Conner sees snakes in the toilet.

At Star Labs, Bernard tries to make Sebastian comfortable and promises to keep him safe until the blood moon is gone. Rachel stays with him, while Conner – who is now suffering the effects of Mayhem’s power, promises the Titans he’s right as rain.
