On This Is Us Season 6 Episode 18 Finale, we say goodbye to the Pearsons after six incredible years…

The Swing

Jack and Rebecca wake up next to each other. Jack notices a tiny scar under Rebecca’s eyebrow, and she tells him the story of how she hit her head on her dad’s watch while swinging when she was a child. They realize that they have an entire day without plans, and decide on doing nothing.

A sweet montage shows Rebecca and Jack swinging the kids, then Randall, Kevin, Kate, and even an older Jack swinging their own.

A Day Together

Rebecca and Jack tell the Big Three that they have nothing to do all day, and Kate is the only one with any ideas. Kevin and Randall are not in the mood to play at all. When it starts pouring, Jack goes out to meet Kate on the porch, and as always, has a way to make her feel better. They head back inside to watch home movies, and watch one where they first did the Big Three chant. Randall and Kevin couldn’t care less, and storm off to their rooms. Rebecca confronts Kevin about what’s wrong, and he tells her that he can’t do a pull-up, and was embarrassed at school. She assures him that it’s okay, and that things won’t always come easy for him, but it’ll be worth it. Kevin tells Rebecca that she always knows what to say and make him feel better.

Meanwhile, Jack goes to talk to Randall about his mood. Randall reveals that he lied about Matheletes being cancelled that day because someone was bugging him, and he pulled a kid’s chair out from under him to get the attention off of him. He got suspended from Matheletes and had detention. He’s convinced he ruined this kid’s life, and Jack confesses that he doesn’t know how to be hard on someone who is already so hard on himself. Instead, he offers to help Randall learn how to shave. Kevin comes in and wants to learn how to shave, too. They smile with glee as they both start shaving. Randall and Kevin start talking about how everything that Kate wants to do is baby stuff. Jack warns them not to underestimate Kate, that she’s young, but she knows to hold on to the memories of the present instead of being too focused on the past or future.

Kevin and Randall head back out, and they all play pin the tail on the donkey. Jack looks at the box, and remembers when they went and bought the game, and how the kids on the front look exactly like their own kids.

Saying Goodbye

Randall struggles to write down words about remembering his mom, and Beth continues to check in on him. They play their typical game of “worst case scenario”. Randall assures her that he is doing fine for his situation, and that he’s excited to start their quiet next chapter together.

Kate watches as her and her family’s kids play four square. Toby comes up next to her and tells her that Rebecca was proud of her, and so is he. He then tells her that he loves her, and that he doesn’t regret their marriage, even if it didn’t work out in the end.

Nicky goes up to Kevin at Rebecca’s funeral and, in true Nicky fashion, tells Kevin that he messed up his life when he knocked on his trailer all those years ago, because it gave Nicky people to care about.

A soundless montage shows Kevin, Kate, and Randall all going up and talking about their mother at her funeral.

Life After Death

At the cabin, Randall’s kids come to check in on him. He confesses to them that everything feels pointless. He spent his entire life not wanting to lose his mom, but he did anyway, and the world continues to turn despite it all. Deja and Randall talk alone, and Deja assures him that its not pointless, that he’s about to be a grandfather.

Randall remembers William waking up Tess and Annie, and talking to William in the hallway. They talked about being a grandparent. William ponders what Tess and Annie will remember about him when he’s gone, and Randall says they’ll remember a lot. After they share a laugh, the two head off to Memphis.

Deja tells Randall that she’s having a little boy, and she wants to name him William. Deja never met William, but she tells Randall that she knows him, because she knows her dad. Randall rejoices that they’re finally having a boy.

The Big Three

Kate and Kevin join Randall on the stairs, and Kevin wonders aloud what they’re going to do now. Kate tells them that they have to do what Rebecca wanted them to do: live fearlessly. Kate has a goal to open as many music schools for the visually impaired that she can. Kevin wants to continue with his nonprofit. Randall might go to the Iowa state fair and try to pursue his political career, the one he promised his mother he would follow.

Kate confesses that her nightmare is if the three of them drift apart. Randall tells them that when he thinks of family, they’re the first faces he sees, not of Beth and the girls.

The Big Three do their chant one last time with tears in their eyes.

Kevin tells Kate that if she drifts, they’re drifting right along with her. Randall and Kevin joke, and then the mood shifts when Randall says that Rebecca grabbed his hand hard at the very end, and wonders what that was.

I’ll Be There

Jack and Rebecca lay together in the caboose of the train. Rebecca tells Jack that she’s scared, but Jack tells her not to be. Jack tells Rebecca that they did so good, and that she’ll be there for the rest of the moments of their lives.

At the cabin, the entire Pearson family plays pin the tail on the donkey, paralleled perfectly to when they played it as kids on that lazy day. Jack watches his family laugh and bond, and Randall mirrors him perfectly…
