Previously on The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 9, Daryl, Maggie, Gabriel, Negan, and Elijah battle the Reapers for food. Meanwhile, Aaron and the Alexandrians must survive a storm.

Warning… Spoilers below!

On The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 10, Alexandrians emerge in a community that resembles the world before walkers. It’s Halloween and the Commonwealth celebrates it as a joyous festival. There were haunted houses, petting zoos, games, food, and prizes.

Hallow’s Eve

The community was well established including even having a hospital. Carol was concerned about Ezekiel’s health, so she stole a janitor’s key and snooped his medical records but was caught by Tomi in the process. The Commonwealth works on a number system, and unless he moved up in the line, Ezekiel wouldn’t get much-needed surgery in time. This upset Carol.

Daryl and Rosita underwent basic training for the Commonwealth army led by Mercer. In a training exercise, they were tasked with other teammates and made to conquer tasks as a speedy unit. However, Daryl’s team didn’t complete the exercise with speed and unity as Mercer stated so he was scolded.

Mercer pulled Daryl to the side for another task and Rosita volunteered to join. They greet a sarcastic trainer, Sebastian, who balks at their primitive weapons. In the next exercise, Sebastian killed one rotter and struggled with the second. After Daryl saved his butt by shooting it with his crossbow, Sebastian was pissed as his mother Pamela walked by with guards and saw the exchange. Mercer scolded Daryl for not stroking Sebastian’s ego.

Carol noticed an exchange with Lance about wine for the party. She snooped around looking into the wine order and it lead her to a wine cellar outside of the walls where there was a stockpile. Though, she encountered walkers and killed them. She brought a case back to Lance to solve his problem, but in exchange, she wanted Ezekiel moved to the front of the line for surgery.

There’s Thousands Of Us!

That evening was a grand masquerade ball among the Commonwealth’s elite. Tomi drank some of the wine and his hand was shaking as he chugged the glass. Yumiko asked what was wrong and he played it off, stating aristocratic parties aren’t his thing.

Those with rank were given a red carpet entrance. When Mercer graced the carpet looking sauve in his grey suit, Princess liked what she saw and said “Hi.” Mercer didn’t care for the boring events and asked her to join him- he used his influence to muscle her inside the party.

Connie is now a reporter for the paper with the help of Kelly translating. She was tasked with interviewing Pamela and asked why the Commonwealth celebrates holidays with such grandeur. It’s a tradition of the community, which provides comfort and structure in uncertain times. She then asked about the class divide and Pamela redirected that she meets last year’s lottery winner, who was allowed to attend the masquerade ball. However, Pamela bailed on the interview.

The governor of the Commonwealth, Pamela, was called to the stage to speak and she revealed a painting of her father. She marveled at her father’s achievements in building the Commonwealth as a safe haven for all its citizens. Suddenly, a man outbursts calling b*llshit at her speech! He lounged at Pamela’s aid, Max, and put a knife to her throat demanding that Pamela say his name. Pamela didn’t know. His name is Tyler Davis and he was once a trooper in Mercer’s army. He wanted her to listen to him, then slashed the painting that she marveled at, telling her she only cared about fancy parties and not the common folk. As Mercer and guards moved on the man, he backed away, pushed Max, and fled!

Sebastian commanded Mercer’s guard to capture Tyler. Daryl spotted him entering the haunted house and pursued him. He cornered Tyler and the young man claimed he didn’t mean to cause that scene, but only wanted to talk to Pamela. He put the knife to his own throat and Daryl calmed his deadly decision. Tyler explained how he messed up protocol as a trooper and lost his apartment and spending card which left no way to help his family. Tyler ultimately surrendered to Daryl. However, in escorting him out, Sebastian came snarking at his achievement so Daryl turned him over to Sebastian so he can take the credit.

Sebastian marched Tyler back into the party and received an applause. Pamela thanked Sebastian but Mercer know who really captured him. In private, Tyler told Pamela there were thousands more like him and chanted to resist the Commonwealth as he was being escorted out. Pamela was concerned whether there were actually more who was rebellious like him…

Rebels

After the party, Carol observed more and met with Lance about their deal. Mercer commanded answers and sent Rosita to talk with Magna who worked in the kitchen. Magna shared her sentiment with Tyler’s rant and agreed that the classism felt like how it was before the world fell.

Later on, Ezekiel surprised Carol and they drank some of the vintage wine. He brought her box with Henry’s name on it, insisting she keeps it. They toasted to a fresh start.

Fast forward to 33 days into the Commonwealth and Daryl earned his stripes, as well as, trooper uniform. They had a better (quiet) apartment and Jude had on nice clothing. By then, Daryl was able to afford to buy her a record player for her vinyl. Meanwhile, Rosita had earned her stripes too and participated in a raid and found a hidden room where anti-Commonwealth propaganda was discovered…
