Meanwhile, Morgan Bote summoned Julian to join his task force to apprehend Emily/Angela. Bote confessed to Julian that he planted the mole years ago. He also added Raymond Waters to the team, and they intercepted Emily in Morroco.

Dan’s conversation with Pavlovich turned deadly for his henchmen as he shot his way out of their clutches. Harold and a team intercepted Dan after he escaped, and he told him that Emily had been taken. Who was responsible? The Old Man… Morgan Bote (their father!)

Warning… Spoilers below!

On The Old Man Season 1 Episode 7 Finale, in a flashback, a young Emily has trouble filling out a form for school, and her mother urges her to finish it. She explains that she’s afraid of her father dying, scared that she’s asking too many questions, and that everything will be her fault. Her mother’s voice tells her to open her eyes.

In the house present-day Emily is being kept in, Julian and Waters talk about their military service. Upstairs, Julian’s brother warns him that something doesn’t feel right about their plan to him. Waters answers a phone call from Harold, whose with Zoe and Chase.

Zoe describes her conversation with Hamzad’s lawyer to Chase and wonders if they could use her against him. Chase is sure she read the situation wrong, but Zoe knows what she saw. Harold gets off the phone with Waters and explains that Chase can go to Hamzad, or Emily will.

Chase is willing to give himself up to release Emily, which surprises Harold. Zoe is confused, and even more so when Chase decides to send her home safely. Chase isn’t willing to call Hamzad’s bluff with Emily on the line, but Zoe is horrified he doesn’t plan to return with her.

In the past, Hamzad starts a conversation about loyalty with Belour and claims to know something she doesn’t want him to. He demands to know the truth about the release of the Russian prisoner and refuses to be mollified by Belour. So she comes clean about everything.

When Hamzad finds out that she’s been feeding information about his enemies to the Soviet Union to increase their cause, he explains that he already knew. She then opens up about the secret ore deposit, and Hamzad is furious that she’s been keeping it from him.

Belour reveals that she knows she’s the backbone of Hamzad’s regime and refuses to tell him where the mine is even though he threatens to kill her. When he tells her she’ll change her mind, she storms off, and Hamzad tells Johnny to leave and not return.

That night, Johnny calls Harold and explains that Belour is in danger and they need to get out of Afghanistan. Harold worries that he’s been giving resources to a man who is now dangerously unhinged and needs assurance that if he helps Johnny, they’ll never hear from Hamzad again.

Covert Operations

In Emily’s hiding place, Waters asks Julian about being in JSOC and realizes that Julian and his associates are the secret covert ops unit for Morgan Bote. At one point, the CIA was almost entirely under Bote’s control. Waters says that the job they’re doing doesn’t make sense.

Mike, Julian’s brother, comes downstairs to warn them that two groups of men are coming towards the building and they need to wake Emily up. On the way to her, Harold asks Chase about the flight he and Belour took out of Afghanistan to the United States.

Harold doesn’t understand why Chase didn’t get rid of Hamzad while he had the chance, or what happened before they got on the flight. Harold tells him that Emily is obsessed with knowing more about her mother, and she’ll ask Harold about it when Chase is gone.

Finally, Chase shares that it’s possible Belour was recruiting and cultivating him for her exit strategy, just as she recruited Pavlovich. He claims that all he knows for certain is that Abbey loved Emily. Just then Waters calls and says he thinks they’re surrounded by Hamzad’s men.

In another dream, Emily hears children’s laughter in the house as she walks through it at her current age. Downstairs is a dank basement, and her mother is standing in a wedding dress. Abbey chastises her for trying to save her and disappears, leaving a doll and a trapdoor behind.

In Emily’s dream, loud screaming starts and she tries to open the trap door, before waking up to Water’s voice. She’s disoriented and stressed out by Julian and Mike, although Waters takes care of her. He isn’t sure about the plan to move her, but they set off for the street anyway.

Outside, Julian takes out man after man hunting for the sniper on the roof. When he gets to the top of the building, he kills the sniper, and Mike, Emily, and Waters safely escape in a van. Down the street, an older woman stops in front of them and shoots Mike through the windshield.

As Harold and Chase speed toward Emily, Harold is furious that Chase left Hamzad alive. At that moment, the Morrocan policemen in the other vans radio in and say Harold must turn back for the airfield or they’ll force him to. Harold hands Chase a gun and asks him to take care of it.

While Harold maneuvers the SUV on the road to get in front of the other vans, Chase manages to crash all three of them by shooting out the window. Afterward, Harold tells Chase they’re in this together now, like it or not. When they arrive, Mike and Waters are dead, and Emily is gone.

Defeated, Chase tells Harold about the flight he and Belour took out of Afghanistan. There was a third passenger that Harold had no idea about. In a flashback, Johnny went to kill Hamzad he faltered because Hamzad’s young daughter was there. Instead, he took them both with him.

In the present day, Hamzad sits in the bath and thinks of his daughter and the kingdom he wanted to build for her. She was his everything, and when she was taken he feared what she would become. Now, as they’re about to meet, he wonders if there’s anything left of her.
