Previously on The Old Man Season 1 Episode 5, Harold confronts Angela as being Emily (Dan’s daughter) and guilts her loyalty. She angrily rebuts that she has been loyal to “both of her fathers.” He gives her an ultimatum… to choose which person she wants to be. Angela or Emily.

While on a plane to an undisclosed location, Harold and Angela arrive at the last place Dan and Abbey traveled to before disappearing to the U.S. Harold’s information wasn’t sufficient, and he learns that Hamzad will expose his betrayal. Thus, he pivoted to help Angela in helping Dan.

We learn Morgan Bote planted Angela in Harold’s office. We also learn that Bote is Dan Chase and Harold Harper’s father!

Meanwhile, Dan gives in to Zoe’s blackmail demands as his attention turns towards traveling to Morroco to save Emily/Angela. He convinces her to come with him as he drops his dogs with a handler. Zoe’s persuasive abilities really intrigued Dan as they boarded a plane for North Africa…

Warning… Spoilers below!

On The Old Man Season 1 Episode 6, in an old attic, Chase frantically looks for someone and cries out when he sees a woman in the yard with a young girl. A younger version of Abbey advises him they don’t need to go find the girl, and Chase tells the young Abbey that he knows her. He sees her.

See And Be Seen

On the flight to Morroco, Chase tells Zoe to write her own name on a napkin and soak it in water. He explains that her name will need to stay behind, and she tells him that’s not a reversible action or a changeable one. She understands that’s the price he pays for being a spy.

At home, Harold’s wife has been hearing rumors about him aiding and abetting a spy and trying to have him murdered. She’s worried that he won’t come out of this whole, and so she’s been getting help from someone at home, Morgan Bote, Harold and Chase’s estranged father.

Harold asks his father why he planted Angela, and Morgan admits that he did it because Chase asked him to. Bote claims that if Harold asks him to fix this he will, and he insinuates that he can kill or remove Angela and pin everything on her to protect Harold’s reputation and position.

Do What You Do

Off the phone with his father, Harold and Angela head to meet with Faraz’s men, while Agent Waters sits in a van in front of Julian and his brother. Julian is worried that Bote might be losing it, and his brother agrees that it all may be coming to an end.

Julian claims that someone needs to do what Bote does, to watch over the game and the world the way he does. His brother is less convinced, and worries about Bote’s plan. In Morroco, Chase and Zoe arrive at a gorgeous mansion. Zoe asks Chase to clarify what they’re doing.

Chase tells her he needs to make contact with Suleyman Pavlovich and convince him to help Chase kill Faraz Hamzad. Zoe understands, but she wants to know more about how Chase’s world works. He teaches her about the two hands of trade combat, empathy, and ruthlessness.

Zoe finds out that Chase was manipulating her when she decided to let him stay, and she wants to know how to do it. He tells her that the catch is that once the switch is on, it can’t be turned off. It’s hard to love and care about someone when you can’t trust anyone, but Zoe doesn’t care.

Practice Makes Perfect

At a bank in Morroco, Chase decodes a message from Emily she’s left in their shared bank account that says she’s coming to him with Harold. On a train to him, Harold asks Emily more questions about her relationship with her father to try and get to know the other side of her.

As it turns out, Emily hasn’t seen her father since 2012. She didn’t attend her mother’s funeral, and claims that love is knowing Chase would give up anything for her, and her for him. On the way to meet Suleyman Pavlovich, Chase and Zoe ride out on a motorboat to a distant island.

Zoe is worried that Pavlovich won’t remember him, but Chase knows that he will. In a flashback, Chase enters the room where Pavlovich is being held, and he mutters instructions for an escape to him. Pavlovich realizes that Abbey wants him released, and Chase cuts him free.

The next morning, Hamzad knows someone has betrayed him but he isn’t sure who it is. When he turned to his wife after a nightmare the night before, she was gone. He claims his wife would never do this, but Chase knows that she set Hamzad down this path for better or worse.

Old Friends And Enemies

At Pavlovich’s reception on the island, Chase writes something down on a napkin and instructs Zoe to wait at the bar. She watches as he approaches the house and passes the note to Pavlovich. Pavlovich is shocked to see Chase, and the two men go inside together.

After arriving at the train station, Harold realizes there are several men waiting for them by the exit. It turns out Angela called them, to send Harold home so he can be safe with his grandson. She thought a high-level FBI member had come to his house to warn him off when it was Bote.

Harold tells her that he sees her as a threat and as his daughter, so he couldn’t take Morgan Bote’s offer. Emily says he should take the offer so that Henry and others won’t suffer for her lies. Harold is convinced Chase won’t be able to take down Hamzad, but Emily is sure.

They have an emotional reckoning at the airport, and Emily tells Harold his story needs to have a happy ending, while she needs to figure out where hers is taking her. Harold approaches the men to go home but realizes Emily is in danger when he sees Agent Waters in the car in front.

While Zoe waits at the bar, she begins to feel out of place around all the rich and famous people. Faraz Hamzad’s lawyer Nina Kruger is at the bar, and she calls Zoe by name and invites her to come somewhere more private so they can talk. Inside the house, Chase and Pavlovich sit and chat.

Pavlovich remembers Chase very well and knew that someday his debt would be collected. He and Chase reminisce about Abbey Chase and the grudge Hamzad has held against him for 30 years. Next, Chase reminds Pavlovich that Hamzad is a common enemy between them.

Pavlovich informs Chase that Belour aka Abbey, recruited him to the Soviet Union, not the other way around. He claims she was an expert in getting people to pursue her and infers that neither Hamzad nor Chase knew their wife that well.

Pavlovich eventually admits that Hamzad’s lawyer told him if he brought her Chase, Hamzad would forgive his grudge against him. Chase fights and kills the men who would take him to Hamzad, and heads out to find Zoe, whose being interrogated by Hamzads lawyer outside.

Stay Right Here

The lawyer claims that Zoe is not Hamzad’s priority and that if she cooperates, she’ll be fine. Gunshots ring out over the yard, and the guests are shuttled inside. As a man tries to take Zoe with him, Chase shoots him and leaves the island with Zoe in tow.

On the boat making their escape, Chase asks Zoe what the lawyer said, and she seems to have chosen him since she didn’t try to leave with the woman. At the dock, Chase leads Zoe ashore as boats and a helicopter surround them, making a getaway impossible.

When the helicopter lands, Harold steps out and meets Chase at the end of the dock. He asks Chase how he wants to do this, and lets him know that “The Old Man,” Morgan Bote has Emily in his clutches. If they want her back, they’ll have to work together against all odds.
