On The Good Doctor Season 5 Episode 1, Lea was having second thoughts about marrying Shaun- worrying it wouldn’t turn out perfect. Meanwhile, Shaun battled a mysterious cause of a boy who inherited cervical cancer in the throat from his mother. A peculiar woman paraded the hospital as an irritating patient. Turns out, the woman was the new hospital administrator to be…

On The Good Doctor Season 5 Episode 2, the team received a pep talk from the new administrator, Salen Morrison. She shifted the practice towards Ehticure, an algorithm that would help them serve clients rather than helping patients.

Shaun thought the shift was good and wanted to pick the cake for his wedding. Suddenly, he was paged to join Dr. Park and Dr. Reznick about a case. A pregnant woman, Abby, had come in with complications and needed an emergency C-section. She was a convicted felon who murdered her first child.

Shaun and Park delivered the baby and Salen was in attendance. Salen wanted her immediately discharged when possible. Reznick had great animosity against the woman who poisoned her last child with antifreeze. However, Park didn’t give up on the woman.

Instead of discharging Abby, he kept them to run tests on the babe. He found some irregularities with the child’s diet and had an idea. Park thought the baby needed her mother’s milk, and in a bold move gave the baby to the woman to feed. Soon after the baby got worse.

Park and Reznick went back and forth about the mother staying but their decision was made for them when they found traces of antifreeze in the baby’s blood. Just when they were confronting her about it, the woman crashed and they had more complications to solve.

Reznick was convinced Abby murdered her first and was endangering her second so she gave her a truth serum and interrogated the woman. The questioning revealed that the woman didn’t kill her children but was trying to protect them.

Shaun, Park, Reznick went to brainstorm the case and Shaun had an epiphany… he solved it! Welp… he solved the cake mystery. His thinking out loud lead to Reznick figuring out the case at hand. Antifreeze poisoning resembles another protein defect in the body. Abby’s breast milk was toxic to her children. Therefore, she didn’t murder her first child!

Race To Stage 4

Dr. Andrews and Dr. Osma were servicing a young athlete, Madeline, who collapsed on the track. She thought she was fine but suddenly started coughing up blood. The team had to stabilize her.

When the team asked Madeline about her family, she claimed to not have any. Ironically, a woman entered claiming to be her mother. She shut the woman down saying she wasn’t her mother. In fact, the woman was but was forced to give Madeline up as a child.

Shortly after, the team informed Madeline she has stage 4 cancer. Dr. Andrews told her it was unlikely she would live more than 12 months. The woman was distraught saying she can’t be dying, she’s going to nations to run track next month. Her mother wanted to pray but Madeline didn’t want to hear that…

Cake Vote

Salen wanted Glassman to stay at the hospital because his departure cause a mass exodus. She offered to keep his clinic open as an incentive to stay.

Osma was trying to figure Madeline’s case out in the break room. Shaun was concerned about his cake vote. Salen interrupted and became rude when Shaun denied her the sweet treat. She confronted him of being autistic. He shuffled out of the room for more votes and left Osma with a tip to try- an experimental therapy. Osma took this idea to Andrews who was with Madeline. This excited the woman yet angered Andrews.

Andrews complained about Osma to Lim, then Salen interrupted to listen. Lim wanted to know what the patient wanted. Of course, avoiding chemo was what Madeline wanted. Ultimately, Lim stated, “give the client what she wants.” Andrews disagreed with the decision but he had to concur.

Poker Tell

Glassman ultimately accepted Salen’s offer for double the clinic’s budget. The other part of his deal was to be a “Yes man puppet” to encourage the rest of the crew.

Madeline recovered well from her surgery. Her mother came to have a heart-to-heart talk, telling her about why she gave her up as a young child. Madeline’s heart softened and she accepted her mother in her life.

Abby was told about her children, and how her new baby was recovering. They allowed her to see the child, alerted authorities of the anomaly, and Dr. Reznick apologized to the woman.

  1. SNova says:

The writing is slipping as far as medical terminology. At 3:04 there’s a pregnant mom hemorrhaging because as Shaun says “the baby’s placenta is covering the cervix” . There’s no way any medical team would explain it to each other using lay terminology in a critical situation especially when saying the patient has “placenta previa” is quicker. For the audience they could have explained it to the woman as they would to any other patient later in the episode. Also when they’re doing the ultrasound at 3:07 Abby says “the baby is brachycardic” there’s no such thing they as brachycardia however bradycardia is likely. And when the girl was coughing up blood at 6:55 that was hematemesis but then Dr Marcus says she’s “hypoxic” which is low blood oxygen but the scanner she was just standing on showed her pulse oxygen was 98% they would have needed a pulse oximeter as she was being taken to the bed to assess for hypoxia and it wouldn’t be instantaneous & she would have needed oxygen. Yes blood loss can lead to hypoxia but the suctioning was needed for the hematemesis. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for catching the continuity issues Dr. SNova LOL!
