On The Equalizer Season 2 Episode 9, a man, Dre Bids, was shot in the gut then executed as he begged his shooter not to pull the trigger…

Lost Cause

Dilemma’s wife and younger son, Nasir, found a song on the internet by a rapper called, Sid Slay, which they felt was a confession. The song had details that were never publicly released in the case. She knew he was innocent but her incarcerated husband told her to let it go. They pondered, if Dilemma was innocent, who did he go to prison for?

The oldest son, Daoud, was pessimistic about his father’s innocence. He was bitter and hardened ever since his father’s rivaling crew had the teen jumped a few months back.

Robyn in evolved Det. Dante and her tech crew. However, Mel had to be the techie with Harry assisting over her shoulder. When they visited Dilemma in prison, he stonewalled them, telling them that digging into the case was a lost cause. When he got to his cell, he called someone, informing them that the police were probing the case again and they would know what to do…

The team found another rapper, Brawlah, who witnessed Dilemma fleeing the murder scene, so Robyn paid him a visit. She posed as a journalist to interview him about that deadly night. He told her he saw Dilemma’s car speeding off versus him directly. She asked about Daoud and learned the teen lied about his whereabouts that night. It could be a reason Dilemma was in prison, for protecting his son.

Robyn went to Daoud’s study to confront him about his location. He said he actually was in the studio making diss tracks and his father forbade it, so he lied where he was. He told her that his father visited him in the hospital and was vulnerable and then Dre Bids was murdered.

Lost Lyrics

Dante called Robyn about a janitor he interviewed. The man told him Jacob Styles, the owner of Dilemma’s record label stopped by the studio that night.

Harry couldn’t bear to deal with Mel hacking so he secretly did it and traced financials. They found Dilemma was paying Styles for the last 10 months in lump sum payments, starting the day after Dilemma went to jail. When Robyn tried to talk her way into Styles’ office, she was stopped. Upon exiting, she noticed a speeding motorcyclist and ducked because he shot at her!

Robyn finally got an interview with Styles while Dante was present. He admitted to being there but not the shooting. He was there to talk Dilemma out of the truce he was forming with Dre Bid. They were going to record a peace track but peace wasn’t profitable… violence did.

They found some audio in the diss track which led Robyn to Sidney “Sid” Rodgers. She was a teen who found a notebook in the park with the lyrics. She laid the track and disguised her voice. She shared that she wasn’t authentic with her craft because the landscape for female rappers was in exploiting sexuality. Her style was similar to Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, and Queen Latifah. Robyn told her to be true to herself and asked for the notepad. Looking at the lyrics… she knew exactly who they belonged to!

It was Nasir’s. Robyn confronted him in the presence of his mother. He confessed to being there. He saw a text message on Dilemma’s phone saying Dre Bid’s was strapped. So Nasir grabbed a gun to bring to his father. Dre Bids spotted the teen so he shot him twice from a distance.

Robyn revealed the shots from a distance weren’t fatal but there was a third shot up close which killed him. Robyn sought to find out who delivered the deadly shot.

Post Secondary Education

Delilah contemplated going to college, rebutting to Aunt Vi that college students don’t necessarily mean success. Delilah was going to bring a boy over but was busted by Vi. She invited the boy over to chat and learned he wasn’t interested in going to college. Possibly where the teen was getting her influence. Though, he had good points about secondary education in the U.S.

Later on, the teens got into a spat about college and disagreed as Delilah leaned towards attending college.

Ain’t About That Life

Robyn had Harry hack the burner phone that sent the text message and revealed Brawlah was the sender. Robyn confronted Brawlah at his studio about the evidence she found and he pulled a gun on her. Before he could pull the trigger, Daoud came in and pulled a gun on the man!

Robyn tried to talk Daoud down and Brawlah told him he’s not about that life. Robyn disarmed the man and Brawlah told her his lawyer would eat the case. But he was recording the whole time and his confession was caught on tape!

Robyn and Dante met with Dilemma and he was thankful for her involvement. True, Nasir will have to pay for his deeds, but Dilemma’s case can be overturned. And Daoud sought to make peace tracks to repair the damage done in the music.

  1. Maggie Hermance says:

Wasn’t Harry’s lair in the abandoned subway under the bar to begin with? Why is it presented as a “new” place to hide when we’ve seen him there from the beginning?

    1. Sharon says:

My take on that scene was that yes, it is the same place but since it had been raided by the Feds and anyone else involved with his arrest is done with it, it basically has been “scrubbed” off the radar by Robyns connections so it can be used again and not be detected. 🤷. JMO
