Warning… Spoilers below!

On Station 19 Season 5 Episode 12, the Dean Miller Memorial Clinic has its opening day, and Station 23 helps out a girl in a skydiving accident.

Opening Day

Jack spreads awareness around Seattle about the opening of the community clinic. Jack thanks them for being there, and he eagerly waits for people to show up. He worries that nobody will show up. Chief Ross shows up to congratulate him.

Grand Gestures

Travis wants to get Emmett back, and asks Vic for advice on a big grand gesture he could do to accomplish that.

Vic tells Travis to just tell Emmett the truth instead of coming up with a grand gesture. He calls Emmett and asks for him to call him back.

Fly on the Wall

A woman from the court shows up to see Ben and observe him at work to determine if he’s a good guardian for Pru. Ben tells her it probably isn’t the best day, but she disagrees.

Ben tells her about the PRT and how it was decommissioned. He feels like he’s doing everything wrong

History Repeats Itself

Sullivan tells Beckett about the local AA meeting. When Beckett threatens to expose his relationship with Chief Ross, Sullivan tells him there’s nothing breaking the rules about what’s happening with him and Chief Ross. Beckett comes back, saying there’s nothing wrong with him having a few drinks after shift.

Fight For What You Want

Captain Aquino is visiting Station 23, who stopped by to visit during his recovery. He tells Andy he should be back in 6 weeks.

On the way to a call, Theo tells Andy that her position as captain shouldn’t be temporary; that she made the team more like a family. He encourages her to fight for her spot.

The First Patient

The first patient shows up at the clinic, a homeless man named Hank. He almost changes his mind, but Jack beckons him back in. Jack checks Hank out, and suggests a cream for lice and scabies. When Hank doesn’t want to undress in front of everyone, Jack offers to take him upstairs. He tells Hank his job may depend on it. Jack lets Ben know he’s taking Hank up to the showers. Ben advises against it, because he could be contagious. He tells Jack the hospital could help, but Jack tells him that would defeat the purpose of the clinic.

Jack puts the cream on Hank, and cuts his hair. He offers him a station 19 jacket. Hank opens up about how he’s been struggling since his wife died. He tells Jack that nobody has seen him in 6 years, until then.

Free Falling

Station 23 is called out to an accident where a woman who was skydiving ended up in a tree. Her name is Sam, and Theo and Maddox head up to help her.

Andy calls Ben and asks for the PRT, but he says he could lose Pru if he screws anything up in front of the lady. He apologizes, but can’t help.

When Maddox drops the saw he was using to free Sam, Andy heads up with it. When she gets up there, she talks to Sam. Sam tells Andy that she’s a waitress but always wanted to be a journalist. She’d just been too afraid to start writing, so she started jumping out of planes to build up her courage.

Sam passes out, and as they get her on a gurney, Andy gives her CPR. They get Sam to the ground and get her into the ambulance.

In the ambulance, Sam is flatlining, and Andy isn’t able to save her.

Lying With Good Intention

A Korean man shows up at the clinic, and Travis struggles to use a translation app to communicate with him. Chief Ross notices his struggle, and comes in, speaking fluent Korean. She tells Travis her mom is from Seoul, too.

Chief Ross tells Travis her dad died of cancer, and the man’s swollen leg looks just like her father’s. His son shows up, trying to take him home, but Travis tells him his father may need to go to the hospital. The son tells them his father has stage 4 cancer, they just haven’t told him yet.

His son says his cancer is inoperable. He tells Chief Ross and Travis that they want to celebrate what’s left of his life. Travis tells him he deserves to know the truth, but the son doesn’t think so. He takes his father home.

Travis wonders if it’s kinder to lie to someone to make them happy. Vic tells him that’s what his dad did to his mom. She tells him that maybe he doesn’t want Emmett to take him back.

Healing a Family

A woman and her son, Astin, show up at the clinic, and Ben brings them back to look at him. He finds an abscess on his leg, and as he’s draining it, Astin’s mom reveals he’s been using heroin while she was on dialysis. They start yelling at each other, and Ben cuts them off.

Ben tells Astin that heroin is the number one cause of death in the country, and he doesn’t want to find him dead one day. Ben tells him he has a shot to live if he goes to rehab. He agrees, and his mom hugs him.

Ben is upset that the woman observing him didn’t witness the one good thing he did.

A Tempting Proposal

Chief Ross finds Maya in the workout room and asks her to talk in a few days about her demotion.

Maya asks Sullivan how he knows Chief Ross and asks for his help on how to become captain again during her talk with Chief Ross. He doesn’t want to help at first, until Maya reminds him that if she becomes captain again, it’ll get rid of Beckett. This intrigues Sullivan, and Maya tells him that if he tells her how to win Chief Ross over, Maya will keep his secret.

Chief Ross tells Sullivan they should lay low after he asks her out again. When Maya sees Beckett taunting Sullivan, Sullivan agrees to help Maya, starting by telling her that Chief Ross hates a suck up.

Results of the First Day

Chief Ross congratulates Jack on the clinic, even though they only had 12 clinics on their first day.

Ben tells the woman from the court that no matter what she witnessed today, he and Miranda love Pru and that’s what matters. She tells him that what she saw showed how much of a hard worker and overall good parent Ben seems. She promises to represent that to the best of her ability but warns Ben that the Millers are blood and that even though she has a say in what happens, she doesn’t get the final say.

Emmett shows up and tells Travis to stop calling him, he doesn’t want to talk. Travis tells Emmett he loves him and explains to him why he felt the way he did. Emmett says even if Travis loves him, he doesn’t respect him, so they can’t be together.

Sullivan tells Beckett about his worst day when he was using. Even though Beckett tells him he’s not drinking at work, Sullivan tells him it’s only a matter of time. He wants to help Beckett and get him to go to a meeting.

Uncle Jack

When talking about the donor, Maya tells Carina that if anything should happen to her, she wouldn’t want the baby left alone with Carina. Carina tells her that Jack offered to be the donor, and Maya doesn’t know how to react. But they can’t help but smile at how Jack talks to Pru.

Fight for What You Want, Lose What You Have

Andy tells Chief Ross that Sam could’ve been saved if the PRT hadn’t been decommissioned. She tells Chief Ross she doesn’t want to be captain of Station 23, she wants to be captain of Station 19.

Chief Ross reveals that she recently discovered a budget issue, and Andy telling her about how much change Station 23 needed made her decision clear: Station 23 is getting shut down.
