Read Michelle Obama’s Highly Anticipated Memoir “Becoming”

Former first lady Michelle Obama kicks off her book tour in her hometown Chicago for the highly anticipated memoir “Becoming.” I can’t wait to read the Michelle Obama Becoming book in its entity! It chronicles her triumphs as well as disappointments- both in public and in private.

“I’m an ordinary person who found herself on an extraordinary journey. In sharing my story, I hope to help create space for other stories and other voices, to widen the pathway for who belongs and why.”

It is a thorough reflection with deep mesmerizing storytelling told in the First Lady’s own words. The book details her upbringing from the south-side of Chicago, to the demand of being an executive juggling motherhood, through the support of her husband as the first African American President and beyond. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, encouraged healthier eating habits for Americans, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare. Michelle will visit more than a dozen cities around the country including a couple international stops. Each city is moderated by a different celebrity guest including Oprah Winfrey, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sarah Jessica Parker and more. Check out her tour dates for tickets.

“Becoming” A Memoir By Michelle Obama

Many witnessed the celebrity of being Mrs. Obama over the past decade, however, the book delves deeper into childhood impressions & influences, family & education, mentors & role models, plus how she handled various adverse situations. Michelle writes candidly about detractors whom tried to invalidate her work:

“I was female, black, and strong, which to certain people, maintaining a certain mind-set, translated only to ‘angry.’ It was another damaging cliché, one that’s been forever used to sweep minority women to the perimeter of every room, an unconscious signal not to listen to what we’ve got to say.”

The “angry black woman” is a stereotype she’s learned to balance with empowerment rather than let it subtract from her mighty character. The epilogue is full of surprise decisions she took in her life. The had the seemingly perfect life track… a great job, a great wardrobe, and a clear path to great things in a top-notch Chicago law firm but choose to pivot and enter public service. Did you know… Michelle Obama does not care for politics? In her words, “I’ve never been a fan of politics, and my experience over the last ten years has done little to change that.” Despite her core beliefs in politics she still chose to support her husband Barack Obama. This left a profound effect on Americans- sacrificing self complacency for the greater good of supporting social change is an epic life milestone to marvel.

I just love, love, love Michelle and all that she stands for. Be sure to purchase and read “Becoming!”
