It’s official, the second season of Power Book II will release on Sunday, November 21, 2021, on Starz.
Power Book II: Ghost Season 1 Background
Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey, Jr.) is struggling to deal with the chaos in his life. His father, James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick (Omari Latif Hardwick), is dead, while his mother, Tasha (Naturi Naughton), is facing the death penalty for his murder. Tariq is the one who actually killed his father, Ghost, but his mother, Tasha, takes the blame.
This is despite the fact that Tariq was the one who shot the gun. But mothers will do what it takes to protect their kids. Tariq must now excel in school while hitting the streets to earn enough money so that he can pay a defense lawyer, Davis MacLean (Cliff ‘Method Man’ Smith), to get his mother off.
With no other way, Tariq becomes a drug dealer in the footsteps of his father. He butts heads with the Tejada family under the stewardship of Monet Stewart Tejada (Mary J. Blige).
Tariq decides to work with Monet so that he can earn money quickly to pay his mother’s lawyer. He is technically in debt. He asks Monet to be his supplier and promises to keep her identity a secret.
Monet informs her husband, Lorenzo Tejada (Berto Colon), who is in jail, of the arrangement. Failure to carry out this arrangement will lead to dramatic consequences.
In doing so, Tariq must outdo what his father did. But keeping things under wraps is not easy. One of Tariq’s professors, Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus), discovers that he is dealing drugs and has links with Monet’s son Dru Tejada (Lovell Adams-Gray).
He promises to offer money in exchange for writing his story. Cane Tejada (Woody McClain) overhears and thinks Tariq is a snitch. Cane is about to kill Tariq, who convinces him otherwise before the latter shoots Jabari.
He now has the money to pay Monet, from the story that was never written, but he is owned by them. As events transpire, Tariq manages to stop his mother from getting the death penalty, with the consequence that she goes into witness protection.
But before she did, she named Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora), who happens to be Tariq’s uncle, as James’ killer, much to his annoyance. Whilst Tommy attempted to take her life for doing this, she did manage to get away into protection.
In an attempt to put things to bed, Tariq came up with a plan to fake Tommy’s death by organizing a car crash. Although this stopped the FBI from coming for him, he still tried to kill Tariq.
And were it not for Monet, he would not have stopped, as she threatened to blow his brains out. Tariq’s chances of living a legal life, unlike his father, seem to be over.
Tariq is making Monet money, and she has enough dirt on him to keep him at bay. Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 will focus on Tariq’s struggle to live a normal life.
Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 Potential Plot
This season will see Tariq navigating many struggles. First of all, just because Tommy has gone, does not mean that he will not return. He still has a score to settle with Tariq and his mother, irrespective of what Monet did.
Secondly, how will Tariq go about leading a normal life? That may seem to be impossible unless he does the unthinkable. In order to get free from Monet, he must get rid of her for good. Taking out of the most dangerous families around seems suicidal.
That prospect has been made much more difficult by the presence of Berto. According to TV Line, he has now become a series regular and wants to have a greater say on how Monet runs her business; His family must come first.
In an official statement, the producers said: “Lorenzo becomes intrigued by some secrets Monet has been keeping from him – and a conflict grows that threatens to split the Tejada family in two.”
Moreover, will this be the last time that we see Tasha? She has gone into witness protection and any chances of her coming out seem unlikely. She has Tommy looking for her. Lastly, how will Tariq cope with being a capable killer?
He has killed professor Jabari and we can expect there to be huge repercussions going forward. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show’s creator Courtney Kemp remarked, “Well, obviously Tariq has committed a huge murder and there’s going to be a big response to that on campus. And Tariq definitely feels like he’s walking around as a ticking time bomb. His relationships are going to get more complicated, and while that’s all happening he’s still got a love life.”
