Joe went to the lakehouse to meet Jenny. He took Eric but his bestie had to bail on him since Joe didn’t get Amy’s number, but Eric did. He took Joe’s car and bailed to meet the girl. Joe was concerned they would officially break up their estranged relationship that weekend. When he arrived, Jenny got sick and started throwing up…

When Eric met Amy she explained her passion for the political arts to Eric, projecting that Bobby Diaz to run for Congress and she was right. But he wasn’t as intrigued by her desires. She pondered how one simple choice can change a person’s entire life. Eric and Amy didn’t quite connect well and when she received a phone call it was bad news and shifted to aborting the date. Perhaps, it wasn’t meant to be… though Eric recovered the botched date after they started drinking. Eric immediately told her that he was bisexual and only dates people he likes.

Joe and Jenny had a heart-to-heart talk and Jenny confided that she was scared to love him in fear of losing her best friend. She asked him to wait for her when she’s ready to be with him. She took a pregnancy test and it was positive.

Jenny wanted to have their baby and shared this with Joe. She then visited her terminally ill mother telling her that she would be gaining a grandchild- hoping that would give her more strength to fight.

Joe contemplated reading his father’s letter as Jenny told her father of the pregnancy. Suddenly, a drunken Eric called Joe with Amy on the line as they were happy that they met. Dr. Banks confronted Joe, wrote him a check, and demanded he leaves Jenny’s life!

When Joe got home, he got an earful from his mother about missing his own graduation party and the career performance she planned. He confronted her that he wasn’t going to be a musician or  a police officer. He told her he was going to be a father.

In the morning, Joe went back to Jenny’s house, her father lingered in the back background but Joe poured his heart out to her. He got on his knee and untied his shoe (which seemed like a gag.) Since he didn’t have a ring, he tied his shoestring around her finger and asked her to marry him and she said Yes!

Music Joe

Eric consulted Joe on his decision not to go to the lakehouse with Jenny- claiming she had four years to get with him and he’s over her. Joe got Amy’s number and she wanted to meet him. She explained her passion for the political arts to Joe, projecting Bobby Diaz to run for Congress and she was right. She planned to meet with Diaz later that night about a job. Joe tried to pitch an invite for her to attend his graduation party. Suddenly, Amy received bad news about the job with Diaz as it was no longer available but Joe pushed her to take the meeting despite not being able to get the position. She explained how Bobby inspired her career path. Thereafter, Amy now had free time to attend Joe’s graduation party.

Joe performed in front of Gwen’s good friend, Joeseph Patrick Kimbrow. Instead of playing a classical performance, he played his rendition of a Billy Joel medley. Thereafter, Amy was ecstatic and gave Joe kudos, the musician felt his song choice was a mistake and probably should have played something classical for the man. His mother learned of his song choice and called him, she was upset and felt he blew it. She asked him had he read his father’s letter. Joe had to bolt to recover the letter he left in the bathroom. When he found it, he and Amy made out…

Joe took Amy to the exclusive bakery his father used to take him and Eric to. He wanted to wait in line overnight to be the first to get some of their amazing pastries and Amy fell asleep in his lap. He then opened the letter. By the morning, the line was wrapped outside the place and neither of them have money left. Amy had an idea, he play his ukulele and sing for the crowd and they donate enough money for them to eat. Amy received good news to visit Bobby Diaz’s office…

Jenny came to the bakery and saw Joe and Amy in front of a crowd, playing music and everyone having a great time. She peered from the distance, she was heartbroken seeing the two and left

Cop Joe

Eric got Amy’s number and will meet with her since Joe didn’t. Joe was bummed because he also turned Jenny down. Jenny left him a voicemail to join her at the lake…

Uncle Frank really pushed being a cop on Joe- which he didn’t think he was worthy of. Meanwhile, Jenny got the positive pregnancy test results, she tried calling Joe but he still wouldn’t answer her call. He was done with her and had been avoiding Jenny’s calls. While at the graduation party he played a classical piece on the piano for everyone.

After Joe finished, a drunken Frank gave a brief speech and handed the musician his father’s badge like it was a bus ticket and passed the speaking floor. Officer Winick, Joe’s father’s partner, gave a speech of heroism from the brave cop who ran into the burning towers of 9/11- saving his life.

In his distraught state of mind, he finally decides to read his father’s letter at the cop diner. His father wrote, if he’s reading the letter it means something has happened to him that he couldn’t share face to face. His father gave him the advice to, “Be bold and go for it and make a choice! If it doesn’t work, make another choice. One last thing it all comes down to who and what you love.
