Previously on New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 18, Max orchestrates a plan to get Dr. Fuentes terminated from New Amsterdam once and for all. Helen confronts her medical complication. Iggy helps two patients deal with a breakup, which forces him to consider his own marriage. Bloom and Dr. Castries reach an understanding.

On New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 19, Veronica tells Max he is fired. Max shows Veronica a clause in his contract that says he cannot be fired because of a sale.

Max asks Sergeant Todd if he supports Veronica. Sergeant Todd tells Max yes until there is a new regime change. Max shows Sergeant Todd UMI’s Financial records, and Sergeant Todd says the DOJ would be very interested in these.

No Harm, No Foul

Helen is helping her mom, Serwa prep for colonoscopy. Cort, Floyd’s sister, sees him driving their late dad’s car. Floyd tells her that he is having a child, but it’s complicated. He also explains he is looking for their father.

Iggy feels uncomfortable around Trevor. Trevor explains that they didn’t do anything, no harm, no foul.

Jace (played by Frankie Muniz) is with his sister Isla, who Floyd diagnosed with cirrhosis. Isla explains to Floyd that can’t be true, as she or Jace have never drank because their mother is an alcoholic. Floyd explains it’s a genetic disorder and not from drinking. Floyd tells Isla that if Jace is a match, he can donate part of his liver and save her life. Jace jumps up, saying that it won’t work, and he runs out of the room.

Lauren and Max take on two children, Darby and Kayden, from the same elementary school as patients. The school nurse has mixed up their medications. Max heads straight to the school to get to the bottom of it.

Secret Alcoholic

Max arrives at the elementary school and finds out the secretary has been acting as a school nurse without any medical training! The school’s budget has been cut, and they haven’t had a real nurse in years.

Iggy councils Pauline, who has had a miraculous recovery and now feels her family would be happier if she had died. Darby tells Lauren that Kayden, his classmate, is a bully to him and then points out that Lauren bullies Casey. Floyd finds Jace who explains he’s been an alcoholic since 13. His liver is shot, but Floyd still wants to test his liver anyway.

Serwa wakes up from her colonoscopy and is told that she has polyps that have turned into terminal cancer!


Max finds the superintendent of the elementary school, who tells Max that almost all the 400 public schools in the area do not have real nurses.

Iggy talks to Pauline’s family, and Floyd tells Jace that he only has 15% of his liver left. Jace swears he will stop drinking if Floyd will save Isla with his remaining available liver.

Serwa shows Helen a dance class that reminds her of Home, Accra. Helen and Sewar join in the dance class together and bond.

Waking Up For Real

Max and Lauren gather the parents from the local elementary school and explain that if they take a CNA class at New Amsterdam for 1 hour a week, they could be certified to be the school’s nurse.

Iggy councils Pauline again in explaining that when she was dying she asked for things for the first time, and now that she is living, she needs to learn how to ask and to give.

Serwa and Helen leave the dance class. Helen says they should do this weekly, and Serwa shuts her down. Helen tells Serwa that she is always begging for her mother’s love. Serwa tells Helen she loves her, but she is also her deepest pain. Serwa wakes from her colonoscopy, it was all a dream! She is in perfect health.

Floyd removes a portion of Jace’s liver for Isla. Jace has a blood clot that is killing his remaining liver. Jace will never wake up from anesthesia without a liver. Floyd tells the team to sew him up, so Isla can say goodbye.

Veronica tells Max the DOJ is seizing their financial records. Max explains that UMI is a huge money-laundering operation and Veronica uses public funds to buy it. Max calls himself a whistleblower. Veronica offers Max’s co-director if he will call off the investigation. Max declines. Veronica offers to resign. Max declines as Sergeant Todd raids the hospital.

Second Liver

Darby’s parents tell Lauren that they will volunteer to take the CNA classes at New Amsterdam to become their school’s nurse. Floyd tells Jace, who is alive, that he is lucky. He explains that Jace has a second hidden liver. Floyd tells Jace, to be honest with Isla and to stay sober.

Helen and Serwa take a walk, and Serwa says she wants to show Helen something. Iggy pulls Trevor into his office and explains that they cannot work together anymore. Trevor gets upset and quits!

      I knew I’d seen her somewhere before too.

    I’m so confused! I thought Helen was struggling to get her speech back?! All of the sudden she is speaking fine like it never happened. I actually had to go back and see if I missed an episode. Didn’t like that!
