Warning… Spoilers below!
On NCIS Season 20 Episode 7 “Love Lost”, the team is gathering in the office, discussing how they each passed the buck to someone else on attending the Safety Conference for all of them. Frank Lassiter walks in and announces that his wife Tara Flynn, the Secretary of the Navy, has tried to kill him 3 times!
After being married to Tara for 43 years, Frank says his wife tried to cut his brakes last week. Then the carbon monoxide alarm went off and he believes Tara tried to poison him with carbon monoxide. This morning, Frank was almost run over. Frank explains that Tara kicked him out and they are going to file for divorce.
Director Vance and Parker head to Tara’s Office and her assistant Rafael ‘Rafa’ Lopez tells them that she just boarded a flight for Amsterdam. Rafael tells Parker and Director Vance that Frank has some issues and says some weird things without thinking.
Felix collapses, foaming at the mouth, inside the NCIS office. McGee rushes to his side and orders the team to call 911. Knight and Torres head to the hospital with Felix and Dr. Singh Informs them that Felix had a seizure from a prior heart condition. Felix’s daughter, Arlene, and her husband, Victor, are in the waiting room.
Arlene wants to know why NCIS is at the hospital with her father. She realizes right away that her father has claimed that her mother is trying to kill him. McGee has Frank’s truck inspected, and the brake lines did fail, but the mechanic can’t determine if they were corroded because of rust and failed or if someone actually cut them.
McGee finds a witness to Frank’s incident of almost being run over, and the witness claims that Frank was walking too close to the road. During the inspection of Frank’s furnace, the inspector finds a hole that is leaking carbon monoxide but can’t determine if it was corroded from rust or if someone made the hole purposely.
Hines and Palmer inform Parker that Felix is suffering from Adenosine poisoning. The Navy has a supply of Adenosine, but only a few people have access to it. One of them is Tara Flynn, the Secretary of the Navy. Hines and Palmer had to work hard to find what poison was in Felix’s system. It’s almost untraceable, and you would have to run a special test to find Adenosine.
Torres and Knight are feeling nervous about questioning the Secretary of the Navy, but McGee reminds them that no matter her title, she needs to be treated just like everyone else. Parker and McGee question Tara and inform her that Felix has been poisoned by Adenosine. Tara confesses that Felix has a gambling addiction. He has a bookie named Olev Koslov who runs an illegal gambling parlor inside his pawn shop.
McGee and Knight arrive at Olev’s pawn shop and spot blood on the bumper of the car parked out front that matches the description of the car that almost hit Felix. They head to the back and arrest Olev for attempted murder. Olev claims that Zero, his associate, was driving his car this morning.
Zero admits that he did try to run Frank over but when Knight and McGee start to place him under arrest, Zero claims that Felix asked him to do it. Knight and McGee don’t believe him, but Felix has the texts and the receipts from Felix. Torres and Parker head to the hospital to question Frank about Zero’s claims. Frank’s hospital bed is empty and Felix is gone!
Felix is missing and McGee and Parker head to Arlene’s house. They explain to Arlene that they believe Felix is doing all of these incidents to try to set his wife up. When Arlene reads Felix’s text to Zero, she explains that her dad does not text using shorthand, abbreviations, or emojis. The team is now on the hunt for who sent the messages from Felix’s phone.
Hines finds the cab that picked Felix up from the hospital. She explains to Knight and Torres that Felix first stopped at a sports store, so Felix could buy baseball cleats and batting gloves. Afterward, Felix asks the cab driver to drop him off in the middle of nowhere. Hines finds a train track near where Felix was dropped off. The tracks lead to a motel and Knight and Torres head there to look for Felix.
At the hotel, they find a check-in under the name John Stevens. John Stevens was the founder of the American railroads and Felix is obsessed with trains. They head to the room and find it a mess and spot Felix’s hospital bracelet inside the room.
Tara arrives at NCIS for an update on Felix’s whereabouts. She is angry and nervous and takes it out on the team. Hines is testing the blood found in the hotel room to see if it is a match to Felix’s. The blood is not Felix’s but it is AB Negative Blood and is an extremely rare blood type. Tara explains that Victor, Arlene’s husband, is blood type AB Negative.
Victor has a gambling problem and knew that Felix had a life insurance policy with Arlene listed as the beneficiary. The team arrests Victor who confesses to cutting Felix’s break line, poking a hole in his furnace, and sending Zero the texts from Felix’s phone. Victor purchased Adenosine from the black market. Arlene and Felix reconcile yet as they walk out of NCIS, they begin to bicker yet again.
