Missy Elliott will receive the prestigious Michael Jackson “Video Vanguard Award” at the VMAs this year. Missy will also perform live at the awards show, returning to the VMAs stage for the first time since 2003. The VMAs will air live on MTV Monday, August 26th at 8 pm ET.

Missy Elliott is a five-time Grammy award winning artist who is known for super creative sound, look and visuals. Her music videos strike as something for a wild caffeine overloaded dream. Checking the boxes of producer, songwriter, singer, rapper, she’s a cultural icon who has transformed the global music scene. She recently was the first female Hip Hop artist to be inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She’s also the only female rapper to have six studio albums certified platinum, which includes her debut 1997 album Supa Dupa Fly, and 2002 blockbuster Under Construction. Her body of work has sold more than 30 million records worldwide.
