On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 7, the SVU team faced one of their most heinous cases ever! They found an abandoned warehouse where a dozen women had been killed, mummified, entombed, and staged as if they were attending a dinner party…

The investigation led them to a man who first seemed innocent until his mother emasculated him to the cops as he wasn’t capable of such a crime. Benson used some reverse psychology on the psycho to get him to confess, he boasted his crimes…

Warning… Spoilers below!

On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 8, a trio with a guy and two girls were being chauffeured in the back of a luxury SUV. One girl, Tori, had been messaging a young man and he wanted her to stop by. Surprisingly, the other two encouraged it.

Clout Chasers

When they got to the location, it was a studio where a few rappers were editing their recent music video. The girl was a honey trap for the two men to strong-arm their way into the studio and rob them. However, one man emerged and shot the masked driver in the head! It caused a chain reaction massacre as the other gunman shot one of the rappers and Tori was hit by a stray bullet. The last standing rapper surrendered by the masked goon shot him anyway- snatching one of their chains. In fleeing they didn’t wait on Tori and left without her!

The SVU team interviewed Tori and she gave them intel on the shooter, Gutta 18, he was a trap rapper too. The other girl was Jasmine. While investigating the crew they recently dropped a music video boasting the murder weapon, the victim’s chain, and lyrics incriminating themselves. Fin told the team, “These kids are clout chasing. They’re so stupid they’re doing our jobs for us!”

Tori recognized the video location and gave it to the police. They raided the place and while taking Gutta in custody, he told them Tori was behind everything and he can prove it!

Predator or Victim?

While being interrogated, Gutta told police she informed them of the weakness to gain access to the crew. He stated, “no one dies without Tori!” When they interrogated Jasmine, she too claimed Tori tracked their crew down just to hang with them. Telling police she was the wildest one on the crew…

Carisi knew he wouldn’t have a case without Tori’s cooperation so he took his concerns to Chief Justice Lorraine Maxwell. She stifled the ADA as the case became high profile since Gutta’s video garnered a couple of million views in a few days. Furthermore, she wasn’t prepared to cut a deal with a White woman and throw the Black man under the bus without due justice…

Carisi revisited Maxwell and proved his case. He took the deal to Tori and her lawyer but she turned it down- opting to take her chances in front of a jury in court…

Loving The Lifestyle

While at trial, Jasmine painted Tori as the person who was responsible for the triple murder. The weak link, Chris, also testified describing his injuries and that his brother was murdered.

While Tori got on the stand, they illustrated her past abuse, gruesome injuries, and how Gutta threatened her to set the men up. Carisi pressed Tori painting her out to be someone who loved the lifestyle although abuse came with the territory. She had several chances to get out but returned every time.

Rollins, Velasco, and Benson consulted afterward seeing the cross-examination as damaging for Tori. However, Benson got an epiphany to re-interview Jasmine thinking she may have not told the whole truth about that deadly night…

Fin and Velasco presented evidence of Jasmine’s past abuse and pleaded with the women to turn against Gutta. His stronghold on the woman was so great that she resisted at first but ultimately cooperated.

Carisi took his concerns about Jasmine’s change of statements to Chief Maxwell and Bureau Chief Phillip Baptiste. They wanted him to be a strong closer on the murder case and to stop playing both sides. Yet he convinced them that, “Sometimes… justice is about compassion!”

They changed their stance and while at a press conference they regurgitated Carisi’s words to the media. They dropped the murder charges against Tori and Jasmine while proceeding with the less harsh charges that got them out of jail. They didn’t want to punish victims of coercion and sex crimes…
