Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 6 “The Five Hundredth Episode”
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 5, Benson and Carisi battled a pair of social media stars who used their influence to gut the case. They raped another Tik Tok star, humiliated her, and bullied her into shifting her story. After an entertaining public case, the men got off. There was a third man who was their friend, he flipped from testifying for them… to testify against them. ‘
However, after the case evidence was found that the men had tampered with the jury. Upon inspection of the new findings, the men will get the punishment they deserved…
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 6, this episode features flashbacks through past seasons and returned old friends including Nick Amaro and Burton Lowe, a famous writer and podcaster. He and Benson had a history…
Old Case New Tech
Nick Amaro returned to enlist the help of the team as a convicted rapist, Ian, was appealing his case after 25 years in prison. New DNA tech shed severe doubt on the old case.
Benson and Lowe arranged for Ian to return to the track where the crime he was convicted of rape and murder. Benson needed him to recall that night. Ian recollects going under the bleachers, making out with the murdered woman, Hailey, but someone attacked him and accosted her. He balled tears and said both their lives ended that fatal night…
The team backtracked every piece of evidence, even speaking with former Captain Donald Cragen who told them about a man who last saw Hailey alive but wasn’t a suspect, Roger Murray. The detectives went to speak with the man asking him down to the station.
Rollins and Fin interviewed Murray. In this older state, he seemed nervous in his answers with the detectives. He revealed a few things such as following the couple that night… but he claimed he was protecting Hailey but didn’t kill her. He got worked up and halted the interview, lawyering up.
The Irony
That night, old flames sparked between Benson and Lowe and they ended up sleeping together. The next morning, Benson got a call, they re-examined the DNA with newer technology and it found Murray’s DNA was a match for semen found on Hailey. They sought to release Ian and prosecute Murray…
It was only a motion hearing but suddenly Murray wanted to change his plea. Due to formalities, it wasn’t the time but Murray blurted out that he killed Hailey and was torn with guilt! He apologized to Hailey’s mother who was in attendance.
Afterward, Lowe was ecstatic about the turn in the case- even asking Benson for dinner later. Suddenly, a woman, Andrienne Malone, confronted Lowe right in front of Benson and claimed he raped her a decade ago when she was 20 and she wanted him arrested! The irony of Lowe helping get a man off for rape and now he’s accused of rape!
Throughout the episode, Benson had flashback memories of Lowe approaching and dating her when she was as young as 16 years old.
Similar MO
Andrienne gave her account of th ordeal but there was no rape kit and it was beyond the statute of limitations. The evidence was a he-said-she-said case and weak. They needed other women to come forward for something stronger. Rollins shared more information with Benson of a mixtape Lowe would create to seduce women. Later on, she dug up a similar tape.
Andrienne posted on social media and more women came forward. They interviewed the women and they all gave similar stories. They felt pressured, uncomfortable, he invites the women to his hotel, wines & dines them, they pass out and wake with him inside them…
Benson went to see Lowe in private, he ranted about being canceled. He told him that her detectives found Adrienne’s story credible but since the cases were beyond the statutes of limitation, he couldn’t be charged. He still maintained his innocence. He wanted her protection- being that she was in the SVU. She confronted him about her underage when they first had sex. Technically that was sexual assault. He argued back that it was consensual- even their recent night together. Benson stormed out…
