Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 2 “Never Turn Your Back on Them”
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 1, Benson’s loyalty to Garland is tested. Rollins and Carisi try to keep their witnesses on board when a powerful congressman is identified as a suspect.
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 2, turns out Danny Q was an undercover cop, Joe Velasco. He’s ambitious to help the case so he does his own thing to get Jenna to contact him. The SVU team was looking for her since all of the other cooperators in the case they were building against Howard ended up dead.
Cop Down
They searched at Jenna’s home, but she fled. Velasco’s investigative work led them to a possible place where she was held up. The team surrounded the place to breach. However, shots were fired through the back door right as Det. Kat was going in. She took 2 shots, one to the vest but the other slipped through to her lower right abdomen.
Velasco breached the house and Jenna was trying to flee out the window. She was in a dangerous spot at risk of falling. He ended talking the girl down as he related to her.
In the ambulance, Kat was fading but Fin was there with her. She flatlined and the EMTs had to shock her back. She was stable by the time she arrived at the hospital. Surgery saved her. She had a heart-to-heart with Fin about being more proactive as a cop, rather than caught bad guys at the end of their heinous crimes.
Saved The Dress
When SVU got Jenna to the precinct, her mother and father joined her. The father is some piece of work, however. His behaviour stifles things- Velasco and Rollins can see straight through abusive men like that.
Later on, Velasco reached out to Jenna’s mother. She confided to the cop that Howard got Jenna pregnant when she was 15. The mother saved a dress, which had DNA on it.
Benson and Carisi set a meeting with Howard and his attorney Gold. They laid out the evidence about the dress and showed him a photo of Jenna sitting on his lap at her 15th birthday party. They tracked down his driver’s routes and told him about Jenna’s abortion.
Suddenly Howard became irrate hearing of Jenna having an abortion. He blurted, “I understand a woman’s right but I don’t believe in that!” He immediately confronted his lawyer. Gold tried to advise him in front of the police but Howard kept incriminating himself. Ultimately, Gold threatened to leave and told the SVU, “whatever he says is cohersed and under duress without the presence of his attorney and won’t stand in court.”
Howard pointed to Gold as the guilt one who orchestrated everything. He claimed he’s a puppet and Gold is the mastermind.
Gold meet with his own attorney and Carisi. Gold offered up bigger fish than himself. The aftermath of the case became overtly political and they ultimately didn’t prosecute Gold.
I Just Can’t Stay
Det. Kat was barely able to walk well and came to visit Benson. She told the Captain, “I just can’t stay.” She could not bear to be a part of SVU any longer. She did not want to follow Benson’s path and invest 20+ years in the division. Benson understood.
Shuffled
The aftermath of all of the bureaucracy prompted Garland to leave the force before McGrath had a chance to fire him. McGrath with to inform Benson about Garland and unloaded her with more responsibility in the Special Victims Unit…
