On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 14, Benson and Trevor Langan (portrayed by Peter Hermann, Mariska Hargitay’s aka Capt Benson’s real-life husband) attended a silent auction and ran into popular radio personality, Bob Flynn. Trevor was the keynote speaker.

Ellen Kaplan tucked in the side room and Bob followed. He wanted the woman despite her husband, Mitch Kaplan, being in the next room. He forced himself onto her, telling her, “No one says no to Bob Flynn!”

The Bone

The next morning, Mitch and Ellen visited SVU with accusations that Bob groped Ellen. While interviewing the couple, Mitch stated Bob often gets friendly with the wives of the associates he works with. He even earned a nickname “The Bone”. Ellen didn’t want to pursue the interview and yearned to leave. However, Benson pulled her aside to talk candidly. Ellen was concerned if the case was picked up, Bob would ruin Mitch’s company which he worked for two decades to build. Ellen confided in Benson that Bob cornered her and raped her.

The SVU team concocted a detail to send Det. Rollins in undercover to Bob’s next book signing and have ADA Carisi pose as her husband. When Rollins visited his signing, Bob invited her to a private room for a drink. He tried to force himself onto her and told her that he killed a man who tried to stop him. Rollins revealed that she was a private investigator for the Kaplan’s as a means to exit. Rollins noticed he was getting aroused by sharing a murder…

Triple Crossed

Benson was upset with Rollins about calling an audible in the case. Rollins wanted to keep working the case. Benson was looking out for her detective and allowed her to stay on.

Detectives Fin and Velasco visited old cold case files to see if any murders match. Meanwhile, Rollins visited Bob again, this time she had video with her wire. She confronted Bob with the Kaplan’s accusation and he offered to increase her pay- acting as a double agent to feed him intel.

Bob kept trying sexual advances but Rollins had to cool him by first revealing her gun then pulling it on the man. He ultimately hired her as a double agent and warned her not to triple cross him.

One cold case stood out to detectives. A man, Ken, was murdered twelve years in the same way Bob boasted about. Bob and Ken went to school and were once partners at a law firm. Detectives visited Ken’s widow, Lola, seeking answers. She told them that Bob would say anything for attention.

Blackmail

Bob summoned Rollins and paid her a $10K retainer. He shared a recording with her taping Ken’s widow about her former husband’s death.

Rollins learned that Ken and his wife ran a romance scam to blackmail men into donating to their charity. Bob was once their mark and SVU sought to have Rollins work Bob for more intel.

When Rollins visited Bob again, he cleverly asked for the private investigator to get Lola out of his life since she was trying to blackmail him again…

The SVU team forms a plan to catch Bon in the act. Velasco worked a case similar and got involved as an undercover hitman. Velasco encountered Bob and Rollins and got the exchange on tape. The SVU team then hauled Lola in for questioning and played the tape for her. They pressed her about her scam with Ken in the past for blackmail. They used it as leverage to get her to work with them and gain evidence against Bob.

The next time Velasco and Rollins met with Bob, he confronted them by gunpoint, knowing he was being taped. He put the gun to Velasco’s chest and took a long pause then told the man to leave and still paid him. Just then, police swarmed and arrested the trio. Bob claimed the gun was fake.

Murder On A Podcast

Bob lawyered up and claimed there was no murder for hire. They confronted Bob with the fact that Rollins was a cop and they had every conversation on tape. He claimed entrapment!

Bob got off on a one million dollar bail and SVU was wary of him being convicted in a lengthy public case in which he can discuss his case on his show- convincing the public’s perception. He painted the picture of being

While Bob was giving his monologue, Mitch stormed into his office with a revolver. Bob didn’t believe he would shoot and tried to confront him. Mitch shot him in the heart! He shot him once more in the heart and said it was for his wife. SVU and Bob’s viewers witnessed his murder streaming live on the internet

  1. RT says:

You made a mistake in the last paragraph. MITCH KAPLAN (not Bob) shot Bob Flynn twice in the heart & killed Bob. Please correct the error.

    1. Sir Anthony says:

Thanks for that! It’s been corrected.
