Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 13 “If I Knew Then What I Know Now”
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 12, when a popular fighter doesn’t show up for the biggest bout of the year, Rollins and Velasco are drawn into a complicated web of secrets. McGrath confides in Benson. SVU returns from a 5-week break!
Warning… Spoilers below!
On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 Episode 13, a young woman nervously got dressed with her foster parents and met a friend for dinner, Michelle. Ashley asked Michelle if it was fine to ask about her biological father. After the dinner, Ashley visited Capt. Benson at SVU to report a rape shortly after she was conceived. The rapist is her father!
Ashley explained the timeline indifference and how her biological father ruined her biological mother’s life (and her life) by raping and impregnating Michelle. Ashley was given up for adoption and is now fighting on Ashley’s behalf.
SVU wrestled with the facts, an alleged rape from 18 years ago, and the mother didn’t want to pursue the case, nor could they locate the father. ADA Carisi was on edge and a bit insensitive facts at the surface, stating they needed either a witness or Michelle’s cooperation. Sgt. Hasim Khaldun and Det. Rollins visited Michelle for her statement but she stonewalled them. So Benson visited her to encourage her to pursue the case, then she changed her mind.
Benson called in Michelle’s mother for more intel. Mrs. Young explained how wild her daughter was years ago but Michelle blamed her mother that she got pregnant since she wasn’t visible in her life. Benson showed Michelle a video of Marvis claiming they weren’t friends. Michelle had proof they were.
Carisi and Rollins grappled over keeping their relationship private. He wanted to open up and Rollins wanted to keep quiet. Even Rollins’ girls were asking about Uncle Sonny. Carisi pressured Rollins into going public. She had never been that open and honest in a relationship…
Benson and Rollins accompanied Michelle for a cognitive re-enactment exercise. They visited the bar and recalled old painful memories of being raped as a fifteen-year-old virgin.
The detectives followed threads that lead to the Wilcox family who hosted the party back in the day. It led them from the affluent mother to her attorney son, Zack. However, Josh Wilcox, the brother visited the police to interview. He remembered having a crush on Michelle and having consensual sex with her that night. He consented to a DNA test.
The police re-interviewed Michelle and she felt dumbfounded because there was a possibility that two 15-year-olds fooled around after doing drugs and she got pregnant. However, Benson’s gut believed Michelle was raped because of her reaction after revisiting the room.
Michelle told Ashley about Josh and that she was mistaken. Ashley was so excited that she visited Benson and SVU to thank them because they found her biological father and the trio was set to have dinner later.
Benson wanted a rush on the DNA. They called Josh in and told him that he wasn’t the biological father. Nor was Zack since the brother’s DNA was similar. They asked Josh about anyone else in the home back then. He told them about Cole Ethan. Currently, the man is an affluent business leader.
Benson and Carisi visited the man and he claimed he was catnip back then and girls magnetized to him. He claimed he had enthusiastic consent. They asked for a DNA sample.
SVU arranged for Michelle to meet Cole at a diner while being taped. He explained he helped her to the room while she was inebriated. He thought it was a money shake-down. He suspected the conversation was being recorded and told her to give him a number but she refused. Rollins and Khaldun crashed the confrontation because Michelle became irate. Cole wasn’t under arrest so he arranged to meet the police and ADA at the station with his attorney.
Benson and Carisi consulted with Chief Justice Lorraine Maxwell and she tearfully shared her personal story of being raped by a socialite decades ago and charged the duo to take Cole down! When Cole came to speak with the police, he was blind-sighted and arrested. They had Michelle’s confession, the tape, plus Josh was willing to testify.
Later on, Cole got a chance to speak civilly to Ashley. He shared his family photos with her. His bastard daughter looked like his other daughter. Ashley was only there to confront her biological father to admit to being her biological mother’s rapist.
The prosecution offered a deal for admission for a misdemeanor and community service. Both Ashley and Michelle were content with the admission of guilt.
After the ordeal, Rollins admitted to Benson that she and Carisi were involved and she was happy for them. Benson had known, however. Carisi told Judge Maxwell. Carisi and Rollins were finally relieved their relationship was in the open…
