Grown-ish Season 5 Release Date

As mentioned, Disney has officially renewed Grown-ish Season 5! Grown-ish Season 5 premieres Wednesday, July 20, 2022!

Grown-ish Season 4 Recap

Grown-ish season 4 has been a rollercoaster for Zoey and every other member of the group of friends she’s had through all four years at Cal U. From the group’s trip to Mexico at the beginning of the season where Aaron and Zoey got married – and then arrested. To Vivek being expelled and disowned by his father, only to reunite with him right before he died without notice.

Relationships were tested this season, in more ways than one. Vivek was disowned by his father and only got to reunite with him briefly before he passed away unexpectedly. He and Ana also slept together, which was a surprise to both of them, one that Vivek couldn’t have been happier about.

Ana survived a hit and run and had to make a difficult decision as a result plus had a horrible breakup with Javi, but by the end of the season, they’ve made their peace. Nomi and Luna got the chance to get to know her baby-daddy Phil and began to build a good relationship – before Nomi got an acceptance letter from Yale, shocking Phil.

Aaron and Zoey were on and off and on again, with Aaron dumping Zoe to work on himself – after punching Luca for offering Zoe an internship. Zoe and Luca became better friends again, and Zoe ended up choosing to work with Luca on his brand Anti Muse after she lost her fashion internship because he outed her boss for stealing her designs.

Also this season, Luca realized he still had feelings for Zoe but didn’t share them after finding out she didn’t feel the same. In the end, he and sister Kiela – who briefly dated Doug this season, both ended up heartbroken after Doug and Zoe both admitted to not being over their exes (Jazz and Aaron respectively).

Speaking of Jazz, she dealt with a lot this season. With her sister gone, her track goals unreachable, and her relationship with Doug over, Jazz was left floundering. By the end of season four, she’s found her footing again with help from her friends and a campus therapist and is working with Doug to help her father turn his food truck into a brick-and-mortar business.

Doug almost lost his friendship with Luca after he started hooking up with his younger sister Kiela, a passionate activist who didn’t appreciate her brother trying to tell her who she could date. In the end, Luca and Doug worked it out, but Kiela dumped Doug after noticing he was clearly not over Jazz.

In the finale of season four, Zoey ended up heading to New York on her own, after Luca gave her AntiMuse and told her she could take the brand mainstream alone. In her final scene, Zoe walks up to her brownstone in New York and goes inside, as Aaron pulls up in a cab out front.

Everyone made peace with their decisions, Vivek re-enrolled at college while Ana decided not to jump right into a law career and Nomi realized she could take her family to Yale with her. Jazz and Doug ended on good terms, and Luca stayed true to himself, as usual.

Grown-ish Season 5 Speculations

Season five will (hopefully) follow Zoey after her graduation from Cal U, and the adventures of the new circle she forms in New York. All we know for sure so far is that her brother Andre Jr (Marcus Scribner), who’s been a regular on black-ish since the beginning, will be joining the grown-ish cast for season five.

At the end of the last episode of season four, Junior walks up to a Cal U building wearing a school sweatshirt and struggles with the doors before he makes his way in. This seems like a hint that we’ll be following the younger Johnson sibling’s journey at college as well.

Kiela, Luca’s little sister and Doug’s ex-girlfriend/boo thing, will only be a sophomore at Cal U next year. And if you’re following black-ish, you know Andre just broke up with his longtime girlfriend Olivia. Is it too soon to say I could see a romance blossoming between these two?

I for one am hoping that some of the grown-ish series regulars will make an appearance. Nomi, who was worried about choosing Yale and having to go to battle for her daughter with her baby-daddy Phil – is headed to Yale with him and Luna, so she won’t be too far from Zoey.

Also, Ana and Vivek are headed to Miami, so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to think that they could make at least a cameo in grown-ish season five.

If you caught the season four finale, you’ll know that Aaron, Zoey’s true love, was in New York three months after graduation to visit Zoey. So if season five really does follow some of her journey in New York, we should hopefully be seeing more of him and their relationship.
