Previously on Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 15, Bailey is on edge when an accreditation council stops by Grey Sloan to review the residency program, while Richard sets an assessment of his own for the same day. Meanwhile, Nick returns to Seattle to perform a first-of-its-kind operation with Meredith.

Warning… Spoilers below!

On Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 16, Miranda deals with the wrath of Catherine Fox as Grey Sloan tumbles down all around her. Meanwhile, Addison comes back amongst the chaos to help a patient with a unique pregnancy.

Off to a Rocky Start

Miranda seems to be burnt out, and Catherine notices her mood and demands to speak to Miranda in her office. Catherine is angry at her legacy dwindling because of the repercussions of the accreditation council’s decision about Grey Sloan.

Owen is cleared for surgery and ready to go, and as he’s saying goodbye to Leo, Leo makes a comment about how he’s a girl. Owen goes along with it, but Teddy tries to remind Leo that he’s a boy.

Meredith tells Maggie that she already made her decision about Minnesota before the probation. In walks Dr. Addison Montgomery, making a comment about how much Grey Sloan has changed, yet Meredith making people mad has stayed the same over the years.

New Technology

Maggie watches as Winston’s brother Wendell gives a presentation about patches that can capture a patient’s vitals. Maggie suggests they try out his product on some patients. One of their patients gets the patch, but the patch doesn’t seem to be working right, considering it’s showing that everyone is flatlining.

Winston isn’t surprised that Wendell’s heart patches don’t work. Wendell meets up with Maggie and Winston, and Winston has to break the news that they don’t work. Wendell tells them that he gave them the beta model, and wants to give them the real deal. Reluctantly, Winston agrees to try them out.

Wendell tells Winston that there isn’t actually another model. He got a loan and bought the entire product, and doesn’t know what he’ll do if it doesn’t work. When Winston presses, Wendell reveals he’s out $10,000. Wendell begs for Winston’s help, to either help him sell the faulty patches, or to help him pay back the loan.

All That’s Left

Addison reveals that she’s at Grey Sloan with her patient, Tova, who has a transplanted uterus and is carrying a baby with the last of her dead husband’s sperm. Addison asks Meredith about the job in Minnesota, saying that rumors spread quickly.

When Addison examines Tova, she finds a blood clot. When Meredith and Richard show up to help, Richard makes tense comments toward her. Addison tells Richard and Meredith to act like adults and get over their tantrums to help the patient.

During Tova’s surgery, Addison thinks it’s over, that they need to remove the uterus, but Meredith suggests a procedure that would save the pregnancy.

Addison thinks that the surgery was successful, but they can’t find a fetal heartbeat.

Addison breaks the news to Tova. Schmidt comforts Tova. As Addison watches, she tells Richard that she feels like she failed Tova. Addison reassures Richard that he was the best teacher, but the culture of the residency program was draining and there was plenty to complain about. Addison encourages Richard to find a new way to teach the residents, to look into the future instead of the past.

Redefining Her Legacy

Catherine lectures Miranda about needing to focus on keeping the residents, not hire new attendings like Miranda wants to do. Catherine says she wants Miranda to talk to every single resident to make sure that they’re staying, and that she’s going to watch.

Dr. Wright is summoned into Miranda’s office, and is questioned. Miranda hands him transfer papers to send him back to Minnesota. When Dr. Wright asks if he did something wrong, Miranda says it’s the opposite, that he’s the best student, and deserves to be somewhere where he is guaranteed a residency spot and a future. Catherine is visibly upset by her decision.

An Attempt at a Fresh Start

Todd delivers cookies to Jo at work, and they flirt as Link walks in. Once Todd leave, Link makes a comment about how much Jo is trying to like him.

After feeling the pressure from Catherine, Miranda practically begs Jo to go back to general surgery as an attending to help save the program and help with the surgery schedule.

Jo wants to get dinner with Link to drink and talk about the issues at the hospital and Miranda’s proposition. She invites him out with Todd and her later.

Link, Jo, and Todd grab dinner together. Todd suggests that Jo could do both options if that is what she wants. Jo is worried about Luna, but Link offers to help take care of her.

Severed Decisions

Teddy tells Owen that Leo is just confused, and that they should get him a therapist. Before they can finish their conversation, though, a man covered in blood tumbles into the hospital, and his wife is holding his severed arm. The doctors prep the man, Colin, for surgery. Meanwhile, Colin’s wife is still in shock from witnessing the accident.

Owen saves Colin’s life in the surgery, but now they can’t reattach the arm. However, after hearing from Colin’s wife, Owen is determined the save the arm.

Owen works on the arm, but Teddy warns him that the procedure has only been done in the army, and Owen doesn’t need to grab their attention right now. She brings up Leo, and Teddy wants to come up with a plan to help him, but Owen just wants to focus on his patient.

After the arm seems to be doing well, Owen tells Teddy that he wants to just let Leo be a girl if he wants to. Teddy thinks it will be too confusing, but Owen just thinks they need to follow Leo’s lead.

Later, Owen lets Colin’s wife know they’ll be able to reattach the arm.

Caring Too Much, or Not Enough

Teddy tells Owen that all she wants is for Leo to be happy, but she just doesn’t want to mess anything up. Owen says all they need to do is love Leo, and suggests that they can get a therapist for themselves instead of Leo. He refuses to tell Leo that something is wrong with him. Teddy is worried that they won’t agree on the approach, but they agree to try therapy.

Nico and Schmidt end up in the elevator, and Schmidt confesses that he was in pain. Nico is upset, but Schmidt reminds him that when Nico was in pain, he kept coming back for him. Nico notes that’s the difference between the two of them before walking away.

Putting Themselves First

Miranda tells Catherine that she’s going on a sudden vacation, that her family needs her. Miranda tells Catherine that she’s done being a superhero, and needs to rest, because she’s no good to anyone the way that she is.

Meredith comes home to find Nick on her porch. He tells Meredith not to come to Minnesota, that she won’t be happy there. Nick says he’s staying in Seattle for a month to be with Meredith.

Meredith gets upset, this being the cherry on top of all the judgment she’d had to deal with all day. She says that she has the right to leave whenever she wants, and is sick of people saying she’s disloyal after everything she’s done for Grey Sloan. Meredith tells Nick that she made her decision, but Nick just wants to stay long enough to save the program. He says that after that, they can go wherever they want to go. Meredith agrees to stay in Seattle, but just for a little while.
