On Grey’s Anatomy, Season 18 Episode 14, Maggie and Winston tackle a rare and exciting heart procedure on 13-year-old Fernanda, and Winston’s brother Wendell comes into town. Meredith and Zola have a sick day at home together.
Can’t Get Enough
Amelia tells Owen that he’s not ready to go back to work, but he assures her that he is.
When Richard tells Miranda that he won’t perform surgery until his assessment, Dr. Bailey is overwhelmed with a physician shortage. Owen offers his help. He tells her to go operate while he takes over being chief and makes sure everything runs smoothly.
Hello, Brother
Maggie and Winston are called into a room with someone under a sheet. When they go to examine it, someone pops out. It’s Winston’s brother, Wendell.
Winston is upset that Wendell didn’t make it to his and Maggie’s wedding. There’s some obvious tension between the two.
Amelia and Winston walk in on Wendell trying to sell some helpful drone technology to Owen.
Winston confronts Wendell, asking what he’s doing in Seattle. Wendell tells Winston that he used his name in order to get his job. Winston is upset that he lied. Wendell tells him their father warned him not to go to Grey Sloan, but Wendell thought Winston would be proud of him.
Houston, We Have a Problem
When Fernanda’s RV comes barreling in, Maggie and Winston rush on to find Fernanda short of breath. They rush her into the hospital right away.
Maggie and Winston aren’t sure if they can still do the surgery because of Fernanda’s dehydration.
When Fernanda’s condition worsens, Winston says that the family was being selfish by taking her on a sight-seeing tour. Maggie wonders if his aggression is toward his brother, but he tells Maggie his opinion was valid, but he’ll support what she decides.
A Budding Romance
Todd asks out Jo again, and Teddy overhears. Teddy doesn’t remember Jo telling her that she slept with Link at the bar the other night. Teddy freaks out, wondering if she told Jo anything while drunk.
When Laura’s prepping for surgery, both Todd and Jo assure Laura that she’ll be fine. Jo tells Laura that she’s fully prepared for the procedure, and that the baby’s health is her first priority.
After Laura’s successful surgery, Todd finds Jo studying in the library and thanks her for everything. He brings her roses and study snacks while she prepares for her test.
A New Plan
Maggie tells Fernanda’s family that they need to change the procedure, even though it’s much more dangerous than the originally planned procedure. Maggie tells them they haven’t performed the surgery before, but it’s Fernanda’s best shot.
Winston runs into Raphael, Fernanda’s brother. Raphael is dizzy and short of breath, so Winston checks him out. It turns out to be a panic attack, and Winston helps him calm down. Raphael tells Winston that Fernanda’s condition has hurt their entire family, and they won’t make it if she dies.
The Even-More-Rare Surgery
Maggie is stressed as she scrubs in, but she knows she can do it. Winston apologizes for trying to change her mind on the procedure, and opens up. He tells Maggie that Wendell and his father freaked out when their mother got cancer. His father drank and ended up in jail. His mother forgave her husband, and used her treatment money to bail him out. Winston started having panic attacks because his brother and father made things worse, and almost lost everything. He admits to Maggie that he’s afraid Wendell will ruin something else.
Maggie and Winston perform the procedure on Fernanda, and it’s a success.
A Stranger Appears
A woman shows up to Grey Sloan, and is bounced around the hospital trying to find the chief to talk to. First, she finds Miranda, who then tells her to go to Owen for the day. When she finally tracks down Owen, she tells him they’ve received multiple complaints regarding the residency program.
A Big Opportunity
Zola noticed that Meredith’s been ignoring her phone calls. Meredith tells her about the job offer in Minnesota. Zola says that as long as the job saves lives, and sees Nick more, then they’d follow her anywhere.
Making Up
Winston tells Wendell he still blames him for their mom dying. Winston tells him their mom would be angry if she knew that her death had come in between the two of them. He offers to let Wendell stay with him, and to actually introduce him to people at the hospital.
Bearer of Bad News
Miranda finds Owen in the Chief’s office. She’s ecstatic from doing her many surgeries, but Owen has to bring down her joy by giving her a notification that the residency program may get shut down…
