Gossip Girl Reboot (2021) Episode 1 Synopsis
On Gossip Girl Reboot Episode 1, we learn of our star, socialite, the “it girl,” and uber fashion influencer— Julien. She and her group of eleventh-grade friends nicknamed the “Seven Samurai” absolutely run their high school… literally. Teachers fear them, not only because of their mean spirits and bold degrading comments but because they have the leverage to make them get fired!
Then we learn of Zoya, the younger morally correct half-sister of Julien. In secret, the two sisters plot for Zoya to attend the same school on a scholarship, reunite with her older sister, become acclimated into their society of elites and live happily ever after. However, that plot will be thwarted very soon…
Julien has built a brand around her Instagram following and before class she’s setting up for the perfect Insta-shot until teacher Ms. Keller accidentally bumps into her, spilling coffee on herself. The ‘it girls’ instantly ponce on the teacher throwing blame and shade. The facility is outraged and ponders a way to restore the authoritative balance with the students. Then, veteran teacher Rebecca Sherman shares how it was done in her tenure at Constance Billard. She told them the legend of Gossip Girl— a blog by an anonymous student who, if she knew your intimate secrets, and she almost always did, then she would expose them. It kept them in fear of authority and kept them honest.
Most believed the original Gossip Girl was Rebecca but in fact, it was Dan Humphrey.
In order to understand the show, you must know about the rest of the gang…

Julien & Zoya’s Messy Past
The siblings’ mother used to be with Julien’s dad, an award-winning super DJ, then left them and ran off to be with Zoya’s dad. Their mother died, we have yet to find out why… They never grew up to know each other but their fathers were well aware of each other formed hatred amongst one another. One day Zoya got a DM from a famous IG influencer and they chatted every day. Julien conspired a plan to have Zoya move to the affluent neighborhood on a scholarship. Turns out Julien greased Zoya’s admission and wasn’t truthful to her pack of friends about how she was penetrating their tight-knit sacred group. There was a fallout when that truth bomb hit. That seed was planted by Gossip Girl. It pushed Zoya away from an elite party early, and Obie followed her.
Zoya and Obie got drenched and the beau invited baby sis to his place to dry off and they were captured by a Gossip Girl teacher from afar getting undressed. Of course, that was posted to further stir strife and cause an uproar at the school. Julien plotted to use the negative PR as a way to turn Gossip Girl’s tactics back on her by faking the sibling rivalry then coming back together. As she puts it, “since no one believes the truth… so we make them believe the lie.”
Julien’s plan was to have Zoya attend her fashion showcase but purposely not invite her to the afterparty. Zoya would cause a fuss and be captured ranting about it. However, bodyguards Monet and Luna crafted their own plan to swap phones with Zoya unknowingly then snapped a nude pic of Max’s junk with her phone. They then Airdropped it to everyone in the audience which caused a distraction right before Julien came to the show finale to strut in front of her baby sister. That showoff money shot was sent to Gossip Girl to post as well as other messy bloggers.
Zoya confronted Julien about the curveball in their plan to take advantage of Gossip Girl. Zoya was hurt and explained to Julien how she only cares about how others see her. Julien gave her an ultimatum to either “learn her or leave!” Zoya rebutted that she’s not leaving but will thrive without her.
When Zoya returned home she was confronted by her father who found out about everything due to public humiliation. Had he known it was a plot to get her in the same school as her half-sister he probably would not have agreed to uproot her. He attempted to reach out to Julien’s dad to talk but ultimately deleted the message.
Gossip Girl, I See You…
The aftermath set Zoya free from the snobby group. When she came to school the next day, Obie had broken up with Julien due to her true behavior and he did not want to be her token boyfriend anymore. He grows closer friendship with Zoya and that made Julien so jealous she stormed off the balcony and ran into Ms. Keller again. This time, instead of humiliating the teacher, she apologies and helped her pick up her things. A small victory for Gossip Girl…
