Previously on FBI: International Season 2 Episode 15, The Fly Team and Smitty reunite with Jaeger in Berlin as they all delve into a case involving an unidentified American who killed an elderly German man who appears to have been a covert asset of the ruthless Stasi in East Germany during the Cold War.

Warning… Spoilers below!

On FBI: International Season 2 Episode 16, this is part one of three in the FBI crossover event!

Cleaning Up Loose Ends

An American CEO of an industrial engineering firm, David LaPorta (portrayed by Bruno Gunn), has gone missing in Rome. LaPorta’s business partner, Tommaso Costa, was executed while LaPorta was abducted. The international team hops on the case, suspecting this could be connected with oil since the firm does business with the ilk.

When the Fly Team arrived at The Collesum crime scene, they quickly determined the murdered man was taken out by a professional, who avoided camera detection. They also notice the friction with the local police Chief Inspector Grannó (portrayed by Christian Vit.)

Soon, The Fly Team gains help from colleagues in the U.S. Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine (portrayed by Jeremy Sisto), and Special Agent Nina Chase (portrayed by Shantel VanSanten) join the Budapest team in Rome.

Back in New York, Agent Scola was undercover, attempting to nab a foreign buyer trying to purchase industrial-grade explosives. The name David LaPorta crossed the Fed’s desk. Now that he has been reported missing, they suspect the cases are connected.

Forrester senses the intel suggests an imminent threat since NY agents are in Rome. Valentine confirms that an unsub faction wants to bomb New York City!

The team doesn’t know who’s trying to buy explosives from LaPorta, so the investigation kicks into high gear.

Forrester and Valentine visit a CIA liaison, Pia Morgan (portrayed by Alice McCarthy), and learn of a deeper, more sinister connection with LaPorta’s abduction. She tells them about an attempted drone strike on General Lancoff, who has ties tyrants to and demagogues in Belarus and Russia.

Lancoff has been running black ops missions in Ukraine for the past 18 months. However, a drone and intel supplied by the U.S. were used by Ukraine to take out his faction and daughter at a wedding. Lancoff escaped the blast radius and survived. The Feds believe this is his motive for kidnapping LaPorta.

What started as a kidnapping case has upgraded to an imminent terror attack!

Valentine was getting antsy because of the slow pace of the Italian police. He urged Forrester to press on the Chief Inspector, but he had to balance with Smitty delicately, or else they would lose any chance to work freely in Rome.

Due to bearacracy, they just missed a potential cooperator who was killed just hours before the FBI arrived…

International Tensions

Valentine, Forrester, and the team got a lead on General Lancoff’s possible location and decided to breach without the Italian police. Lancoff was long gone when they breached, and Smitty was livid, showing the FBI team why American arrogance causes international tensions.

However, the Feds got another lead on Lancoff’s possible location, and with Smitty’s blessing, they decided to hunt him!

Valentine ordered Chase to stay behind so they didn’t risk harm to her and her unborn child. However, she tagged along with Vo to cover the perimeter.

The Feds breached Lancoff’s location, taking out his guard individually. They found LaPorta bound and, tortured with a bullet in his head! They suspected he gave Lancoff the intel he needed.

The FBI found evidence that Lancoff and one goon escaped the house from an underground tunnel and slipped past their perimeter. When Lancoff emerged, he shot at Vo and Chase, Agent Nina Chase was shot, and Lancoff got away! As Nina was transported to the nearest hospital, she relayed a message to Valentine for Scola and passed out.

Forrester was regretful they didn’t wait, but Valentine knew the bureaucracy would have made them miss their chance again. This saga is to be continued…
