Warning… Spoilers below!

On FBI: International Season 1 Episode 21 Finale, a wealthy man tried waiting on someone but couldn’t and took off on a private jet. After taking off, the flight attendant asked who was he waiting for. He stated an old friend that he would probably never see again. Then he saw a missile out of the window racing his way and it blew up the aircraft!

Being Used

The Fly Team celebrated with Jaeger in a bittersweet moment. Since she was promoted, this would be her last case with the. Then the team was updated on a private plane that was reported to have crashed and The Fly Team was briefed that Americans were on board. However, after Forrester saw the jet owner, Greg Hutchinson (portrayed by Philip Rosch), he perked up. Kellet took notice. There was evidence that the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile!

Kellett asked Forrester about the man. He explained, that when he was in contact with his mother, she asked for the Hutchinson file. He never gained access to the real file, however. Suddenly, Forrester was summoned to a private meeting…

He spoke with his mother Angela Cassidy (portrayed by Elizabeth Mitchell) via a video call and learned about Pavel Novikoff (portrayed by Alon Aboutboul). Novikoff was considered the Czar of all the top spies in Russia. He was supposed to be on that plane and be killed!

Kellett warned Forrester about trusting his mother. This led Forrester and the team to dig into Novikoff. Agent Michael Rafferty (portrayed by Aaron Serotsky) was keeping tabs on Forrester and requested a meeting then confronted him for looking into Novikoff. Rafferty felt Forrester was being played by his mother to do her bidding.

Rafferty explained his suspicions that Angela wanted the Hutchinson file in an effort to clear her name and expose Novikoff to the Kremlin. However, Novikoff fled before she could make her power move. Rafferty elaborated that since Angela is a Russian loyalist who was using Forrester to find Novikoff then she would kill him.

Forrester learned the real reason Rafferty charged him with investigating his mother. He also learned that Novikoff was the one who turned her against the United States. Rafferty remanded Forrester to not help his mother, or else he would risk his freedom.

Afterward, Forrester received a video call from his mother who told him that Novikoff wanted to turn himself into her. She was the only one she trusted and Angela only trusted him. She told him that Novikoff was in Pula, Croatia.

A bureaucrat, Ken Dandridge (portrayed by Michael Torpey), showed up to oversee The Fly Team and wondered why his superiors tasked him with the Hutchinson case. The man demanded they all focus and not move. Forrester immediately disobeyed, turned off his phone, and set out on a solo mission…

F The Bosses

Forrester met with local Croatian authority Astrid Jensen (portrayed by Lotte Verbeek) who was recommended by Jaeger. Forrester reached out to his team to inform them of his whereabouts and for them to keep the bosses in the dark about his op. (Kellet rebutted but still helped.) Forrester was willing to risk his job and his life for his mother who was a traitor.

Dandridge confronted the team demanding Forrester’s whereabouts but they were tight-lipped.

Meanwhile, Rafferty intercepted Forrester in Pula and confronted him about his reckless leadership. Suddenly, he was shot in the neck! Two shooters were trying to hit Forrester and used a crowd of innocent people for cover. A dark sedan raced to the scene, it was Jensen and yelled for Forrester to get in and they dashed the firefight…

Risking It All

Forrester was forced to update his team about Rafferty’s murder and told them to update Dandridge. He told them that the two suspects from the plane bombing were the shooters. Soon after, Forrester met Novikoff and he wanted safe passage out of the country. Novikoff confided in Forrester about Angela, stating her loyalty lies with the U.S.

When Forrester transported Novikoff they were ambushed by a car sideswiping them! The shooters found them. Jensen held them back while Forrester got Novikoff to safety but they had to move.

Novikoff was injured so they moved slower. Suddenly, one of the shooters caught up to them and fought fiercely with Forrester. Our leading agent was nearly killed until Novikoff threw him a knife and Forrester killed the man. They were headed to the airfield for Novikoff’s exfil but the former Russian agent told him that his mother wanted to flee with them. She was not far away and Forrester contemplated going to get her…

The other shooter spotted and chased them but Forrester lead him to Jensen and a blockade of police while they escaped for the airfield. The shooter managed to slip away. Novikoff received a coded message that Angela was compromised and that they shouldn’t try to contact her.

General Finley (portrayed by Moe Irvin) and Dandridge greeted and thanked Forrester for his work. Novikoff sought asylum in the U.S. However, Angela had to turn herself in to the U.S. government and explain to whom she had allegiance.

Afterward, Forrester thanked Jensen for her help. Then, Forrester received a video call from his mother urging him to forget about her. Their estranged relationship wouldn’t work and he was tearful about her departure.

When Forrester returned to base, The Fly Team was excited to see him and Novikoff made it safely on U.S. soil. The team celebrated Jaeger’s promotion. However, the shooter spied on them from the distance
