Dexter: New Blood Season 2 – Release Date, Plot, Trailer & Everything You Need To Know!

Dexter: New Blood Season 2 could possibly be in the works with the way writers left the plot. New Blood was meant to correct the blundered series finale of the original Dexter series. Fans were upset then, and seem to hate the current finale. If continued, the new season will focus on how Dexter’s death (Michael C. Hall) has an impact on the man that his son Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott) will go on to become. Any potential season is expected to air in late 2022 or early 2023. Here are more answers to your burning questions!

Dexter: New Blood Potential New Season Plot

Following the conclusion of the finale, Dexter’s shocking death suggests that a new season could focus on his son Harrison’s backstory or his future. After all, he had just returned in order to seek out his father. There would be plenty of answers for him to seek.

It’s not to say that Dexter could not return, but if he did, it would most likely be as a spirit of some sort, much in the same way that his sister Debra had been plaguing him. And if that were to be the case, such themes could focus on how Dexter and Harrison grew closer together throughout the season, despite Dexter initially pretending that Harrison was not his son.

So much so that Dexter ended up sharing his biggest secret: yep, that he kills people for a living. And it became clear that Dexter could only keep his killing instincts at bay, by virtue of his son, who acted as a moral compass. But in doing so, Harrison had been influenced by his father’s darkness. Could a new season see Harrison take on the mantle of his father, following the latter’s death as a way of revenge against ‘society.’

The finale had shown that Harrison had grown and matured. He was ready to leave Iron Lake behind by moving out with Dexter after their house had been burnt down by a common enemy. But once Harrison discovered that Dexter killed his coach Logan, he was ready to exact revenge by doing the unthinkable… Shooting his father dead and becoming the heir to ‘Dexter.’

And this is something that a potential new season has teased. Clyde Phillips, the show-runner, told Deadline the following: “Harrison is such a complicated character and he has within him the seeds of the dark passenger.” He added, “Harrison brings a different perspective to the vigilantism… He brings this youthful, optimistic innocence, that he and his dad are basically Batman and Robin.” Phillips concludes, “Think of every time we take out one of these bad guys how many lives we’re saving, that this bad person is not going to kill. Dexter never thought of that. Dexter was only taking out bad guys because that was his code.”
