Warning… Spoilers below!

On Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 20, Adam and Kim discussed Makayla’s memory of the kidnapping with her therapist. Makayla may seem fine for now, but her memories could change at any time.

Kim tells Adam the three-bedroom apartment they put a deposit down on is available next week. Kim wants to know if Adam wants the apartment or if she and Makayla can have it. Kim responds to a call with Hailey where a woman has found her parents, the Graces, murdered in their bed.

Bleach Bath

The team investigates the scene at the Grace’s house. There is no forced entry and bleach has been used on the bodies, the walls, and everywhere!

There is no murder weapon, prints, or witnesses. Hank says the killing was sadistic. Kim finds a case that also involved a bleach bath. In 1994, Daniel Smith, a little boy, was found alive covered in bleach. Daniel told the police that someone took his parents and told him to run. Daniel says they lived in an RV, and he doesn’t know his parents’ real names.

Kim explains the killer broke in, cooked dinner, read the family a book, bathed them in bleach, told Daniel to run, and killed his parents. Kim says the police never found Daniel’s parents or could prove that Daniel Smith even existed.

Kim and Adam head to Daniel’s house to talk to him. Daniel explains the original cops never believed him and convinced him that he had childhood trauma and his little boy’s mind fabricated the story. Kim explains the Graces’ murders.

RV or House

Daniel describes everything about that night that he can remember. Daniel says a strange man with pink dust showed up. Daniel remembers the curtains the most.

Adam and Kim start to communicate normally until Kim uses the pronoun ‘our’ and makes things awkward. Kim heads to Dr. Magnuson’s house, who was Daniel’s therapist. Dr. Magnuson never believed Daniel was abused and always believed his story.

Kim comes home to find Adam and Makayla there watching videos they made. Makayla asks Adam to put her to bed. Kim goes through some drawings with some happy and bad scenes. She heads straight to the Grace’s house and checks their attic. She finds pink insulation, pink dust, and an access point.

Freelancer

Kim explains to the team how the killer used the ductwork to enter the attic and kill the Graces. She believes he did the same with Daniel’s family. Kim thinks Daniel’s memory is muddled, and he actually lived in a house, not an RV.

The team starts off by investigating freelancers of the Age One Building Group that worked on the houses. As Adam and Kim check out one of the buildings owned by Age One, they spot a suspect. The suspect jumps in his vehicle and takes off. Adam and Kim and Hailey and Jay pursue. Adam pulls up info on the suspect, his name is Jim Wheaton, and he is a carpenter. Jay and Hailey intercept Jim and take him into custody.

Triggering Daniel

The team explains to Hank why they have Jim in custody. Hank doesn’t believe that they have the evidence to hold him, but the team does. Hank tells the team they have 48 hours to prove it’s Jim, or they released him. Hank tells Kim to bring Daniel in and see if he recognizes Jim or if Jim triggers him.

The whole team takes turns trying to break Jim. Jim won’t talk, and Daniel has no reaction or recognition of Jim.

Kim shows Daniel her murder board. Daniel sees the book the killer read to his family that night, and it starts triggering him. Daniel sees a picture of the Diamond Deer Inn and says this is where he was staying with his family when everything happened.

Making New Memories

Adam and Kim check out Diamond Deer Inn. The curtains Daniel described and remember are there. Adam and Kim know this is where Daniel’s parents were murdered.

Judy organizes a search party in the woods by the inn. Adam and Kim spot an RV. It’s Daniel’s family’s RV.

Kim tells Jim that his DNA connects him to Daniel’s parent’s murder and the Graces’ murder. Jim asks Kim if she is a good mother, and Kim charges Jim with four counts of murder.

Kim explains to Daniel what happened on the night of his parent’s murder. Adam shows Daniel a family video they found inside the RV. He gets to see his parents alive and knows that they were real.

Adam and Kim go to Adam’s dad’s house. Adam explains to Kim that he is buying the house, and he wants Kim and Makayla to live in it. He says they need to make new memories and offers to stay in the undercover apartment if that’s what Kim wants.
