Chicago Med Season 8 Release Date
We anticipate Chicago Med Season 8 to release in the Fall of 2022!
Previously On Chicago Med Season 7
The season began with Dr. Manning leaving Chicago, and Sharon asking Will to come back to Med to investigate Dr. Cooper and his work with the VasCom. Dr. Hammer and Dylan arrived to Med as new characters for the season. Because of their history from med school, Dr. Hammer and Will bumped heads from the very beginning. It was revealed that Dr. Hammer’s mother was homeless and that their relationship has been strained because of it. When her mother was admitted to the hospital, Dr. Hammer enlisted Vanessa’s help to convince her stubborn mother to accept help. Dylan revealed that he used to be a police officer, and was put in several situations where he had to choose between his past and present careers.
Ethan returned after being shot and tried to get back in the swing of things. He pushed himself too hard at first and put himself at risk. Overwhelmed with the stress of her job, Vanessa began taking Adderall. After keeping it a secret for a while, Vanessa soon came clean to Maggie when she had to pass a drug test. Maggie helped protect her, despite not agreeing with her decisions.
Dr. Halstead helps Dr. Hammer find her mother after she disappears, and soon Dr. Hammer had to let her mom go and take care of herself after she got out of the psych ward. While it seemed like Dr. Hammer and Will would be involved in some type of relationship, Dr. Hammer suddenly revealed that she was trying to make her marriage with her husband work, when they had previously been in the middle of a divorce. Dr. Hammer decided to move to Detroit to be with him and left Med. Meanwhile, Crockett began seeing transplant surgeon Dr. Blake’s daughter Avery, while learning more about transplant surgeries from Dr. Blake.
Will’s investigation hit a hold when the FBI refused to arrest Dr. Cooper. Will takes things into his own hands, and gets Dr. Cooper and people related to the VasCom arrested, which put the hospital in danger of a lawsuit. Meanwhile, Dylan reunited with a former girlfriend, and clashed with her husband from their rough past on their sick son. After Dr. Blake was poisoned in the OR, Crockett rushed to her aid. Dr. Charles reunites with his old therapist Dr. Richardson, and complicated romantic feelings arose. When Maggie began feeling unwell, Vanessa ran tests and thought Maggie was pregnant, but she wasn’t.
Vanessa also went on a few dates with Randall, who had been keeping an eye on Med ever since the VasCom incident. Dr. Archer was interested in Dr. Blake, and wanted to compete with Crockett for her. Dr. Blake finally let Crockett in, and the two kissed, only for Avery to walk in and see them, understanding why Crockett was ending things with her. This caused Dr. Blake to be weary of their new relationship, but she came to respect Crockett and they started seeing each other again.
When VasCom decided to settle, Will received 1.2 million. He debated on what to do with it, but ended up keeping most of the money and purchasing an old apartment complex. Dylan met a mysterious patient named Melina, and suspected that she was a drug dealer. After acting like a police officer instead of a doctor, Dylan realized that the Serbian Mafia was involved. Melina soon revealed to him that she was also a cop, but deeply undercover, and got Dylan’s help. The gang war was even brought to Med at one point, but Dylan saved the day. Sharon found out her daughter Tara was pregnant. Dr. Hannah Asher was welcomed back to Med. Dylan and Melina started seeing each other romantically. Despite Dylan being unsure if he could fully trust her, the two continued to be a strong pair.
A patient named Gerald showed up to the hospital, and asked to see Ethan. Ethan realized Gerald knew his father and worked with him. Ethan soon realizes that he didn’t know his father as well as he thought, when Gerald revealed that he was in a relationship with Ethan’s father.
Dylan got roped into to helping the mob boss’s son, and had to hide his relationship with Melina. Hannah and Will repaired their friendship, and Will even offered Hannah a place to stay in his new apartment complex. Meanwhile, Dr. Blake froze during surgery, and later revealed to Crockett that there was something wrong with her hands. Vanessa inquired about her biological father to Maggie, but Maggie was hesitant to open up that part of her life again. After being stubborn, Dr. Blake finally agreed to the surgery, and Ethan went to see Gerald to hear more about his father. Melina told Dylan there was a mole in the CPD and that she’s been made, and she needs to leave. She told Dylan her real name is Jo.
The season ended with a celebration for Sharon’s birthday, where Tara went into labor during dinner and had to deliver right there with her mother. Dr. Charles realized his connection to Dr. Richardson was too complicated and broke up with her, saying that she deserved better than him.
Meanwhile, Dr. Blake had her surgery, and ended up giving Crockett power of attorney. When faced with a difficult decision, Crockett made the one that wouldn’t put Dr. Blake’s life at risk, but could affect the function of her hands. When Dr. Blake woke up and wasn’t able to touch her finger to her nose in a simple exercise, she realized what Crockett had done and got upset with him; he possibly ruined her whole career with his emotionally based decision.
After a ceremony for Ethan’s father, Ethan gave Gerald the flag in his father’s honor. Dr. Archer seemed moved, and called his own son, wanting to reconnect. Maggie ended up tracking down Vanessa’s father, Grant, and introduced the two to each other. Jo was staying in Will’s apartment complex, but when Dylan came to say goodbye, the building was engulfed in flames. A member of the mafia came in and struggled with Dylan, and Melina ended up shooting him.
Dylan told Melina to run and get help, and when she left, she realized she had been shot in the stomach. Will ran in to help Dylan get the mob member out of there, but both exits were blocked by fire, trapping them all in the burning building.
What To Expect On Chicago Med Season 8
Considering the season 7 finale left off with quite the cliffhanger, it can be assumed that the premiere will pick up right where it left off: with Will and Dylan in a dangerous situation. Melina is shot, yet promised to get help, so will she make it in time? And will she be able to escape before the other members of the mob track her down? Hopefully, both Dylan and Will make it out of there alive (I’m not as concerned about the shot mob member). If that happens, Will is sure to be in some kind of situation where he has to figure out how to repair the damage done to his building and see if he can get it prepared for more tenants after the devastating fire.
Crockett and Dr. Blake’s relationship left off being quite rocky, with Crockett making a decision for Dr. Blake during her surgery that she didn’t want. If her symptoms stay the same, and her hands are permanently changed, is that it for Dr. Blake at Med? Even if it isn’t, it seems very likely that it will be the end of Dr. Blake and Crockett’s romantic relationship.
Since Vanessa met her biological father Grant, will they start seeing each other more and getting to know one another? If so, how will Grant’s presence affect Maggie, since she told Sharon that she was really in love with him when she got pregnant? It doesn’t seem like it will be a positive thing for Maggie and Ben’s relationship.
Will and Hannah seemed to “start over” and reintroduce themselves after building their friendship back up for most of season 7. Is friendship the type of relationship they’re meant to have, or will they inevitably fall back into old patterns? It seems like what’s between them is too strong to be just friendship, but their amount of baggage may be able to counteract that.
We’ve always known Dr. Archer to be kind of a cold-hearted and blunt doctor, but he showed some vulnerability when he reached out to his son, asking to hear back from him. This could possibly be an interesting storyline for Dr. Archer in the upcoming season, and it could allow the fans to see a more vulnerable side of him than we’ve been shown, plus it would give us more background on this character we still don’t know too much about.
The season 7 finale left fans with many questions, and possible storylines for season 8. Relationships are in jeopardy, and some are just beginning to bloom again. Besides the doctor’s personal lives, there are sure to be plenty of emotional and intense patients and cases that the doctors of Med will have to deal with, but we’ll have to wait a while to see exactly what those situations are.
