Miss Moving On

While Crockett and Archer are in the locker room at the start of their shift, Crockett notices that Dr. Blake’s locker is empty. Archer reveals that Dr. Blake tendered her resignation, and is going to work in Boston, because she was cleared to do surgery again. Crockett freaks out, wondering why she didn’t tell him. He tries to call her, and when she doesn’t answer, Crockett heads out to track her down, saying he needs to talk to her before she leaves.

Hannah helps a pregnant woman named Candace, who is having some pain.

Maggie is back from her honeymoon in Paris!

Archer reminds Hannah that her weekly drug test is coming up, even though Hannah has been doing it for 6 months.

The Midnight Train

Crockett is heading to talk to Dr. Blake when he runs into a cop who is stopping pedestrians from walking near where they’re showing off the Hypertrain, a new invention that’s supposed to help quicken public transportation. Crockett starts to leave, defeated, but suddenly the ground shakes, smoke starts rising from the subway entrance, and people are screaming and running out. One of the people says that the train jumped the tracks. Crockett rushes down to see if anyone needs help.

Crockett finds Jack, the man who created the Hypertrain, in one of the train cars. His leg is stuck, and Crockett helps him out. Jack points Crockett to Nathaniel, the driver of the train, who is on the ground and having trouble breathing. Crockett evaluates him, and realizes he broke several ribs and his lung has likely collapsed. Suddenly, everything around them shakes again. Jack wants to get Nathaniel out of there, but Crockett says they can’t move him. Crockett says it’s too dangerous to find a way out, since they don’t know how it looks out there after everything shook and crumbled again. Crockett says they need to wait for CFD to come and help them.

Unfortunate Circumstances

Will and Vanessa help a woman named Rose who came in for a UTI. Will finds out from Vanessa that the medication that they’re needing to put Rose on, the only drug that will treat her infection, is on the shortage list. Will wants to call around, but Vanessa tried that; nobody in Chicago has the drug that they need.

Archer suggests that Hannah give Candace an ultrasound, even though she believes that they just need to do a CT. Archer shuts down whatever Hannah suggests, and even gives her more suggestions as to how to treat her patient, which she doesn’t seem to appreciate, but says nothing.

Dr. Charles is talking to a therapist, finally, about how his work truly affects him. While he’s talking, the therapist, Dr. Greenwell, seems uncomfortable and starts holding his chest. Dr. Charles asks him what’s wrong, and Dr. Greenwell thinks he’s having a heart attack and crashes through the glass coffee table.

Dr. Greenwell is rushed to Med, and put in the hands of Dr. Hudgins.

Doing It The Hard Way

Down on the subway, Severide shows up and talks to Crockett through a small passageway. Severide tells him that it’ll take a while to clear it and get them out, but Crockett says that Nathaniel doesn’t have long, so he’ll need supplies from Severide as soon as possible. Severide rushes off to grab them.

Will and Vanessa run into Sharon, and update her about the medication that Rose needs. Sharon assures them that she’ll make some calls and see what can be done. Before she leaves, Sharon mentions Jay working for the Army to Will, who says that he needed a change, and seems to support his brother’s decision.

A man comes in to Med that fell off a ladder, and Kai and Ethan help him out. The whole time they’re trying to evaluate him, he keeps mentioning how he hates hospitals and doesn’t want to be there.

When Ethan calls for a chest tube, Maggie says there’s a problem. Archer reveals that the drainage system that they need for their patient was just sent off to help Crockett underground, and that was the last of it. Kai makes a snide comment about how Crockett shouldn’t be operating under those conditions anyway.

Power Struggles

Archer tells Candace that her kidney is swollen, and maybe even infected. Hannah excuses them, and tells Archer there’s no certainty that it’s an infection. When Archer doesn’t listen to Hannah giving her medical opinion, Hannah comments that she feels like she’s never going to pass whatever test Archer is giving her. Archer just sighs, and tells Hannah that because of the shortage, Hannah needs to try every avenue before doing a CT.

Dr. Charles checks in on Dr. Greenwell to try and figure out what happened. Dr. Charles wonders if he was having a panic attack. Dr. Greenwell just wants to go home, but Dr. Charles notices that his heart rate went back up quickly. Dr. Greenwell feels that pain in his chest again, and Dr. Charles helps him breathe to try and calm him down.

Maggie tells Archer and Hannah that the CFD has lost contact with Crockett, and they all worry if he’s okay.

Candace begins throwing up, and Archer finally agrees to get her a CT, because it doesn’t seem to be a result of a kidney infection.

Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Herrmann throws Crockett the bags of supplies. However, when Crockett is trying to pull one down, it gets stuck. Crockett asks Jack for help, but before Jack can get there, everything shakes again, and rocks begin falling. Crockett’s arm is still sticking out the train window, and rocks collapse onto him and trap his arm.

Nathaniel is losing consciousness. Crockett asks Jack to hit him hard, but Jack worries that it’ll break his arm. Crockett tells him to do it anyway, and Jack does it and is able to get Crockett’s arm free. Jack helps pull Crockett’s arm to put his shoulder back in socket.

Jack warns that the rest of the wall is going to collapse soon, so they realize they have to work fast. Crockett and Jack work together to sedate Nathaniel and give him some blood.

Hitting More Walls

Ethan talks Kai through the drainage system that he made since they didn’t have the normal equipment to work with a chest tube. Kai puts the chest tube in, and Ethan’s DIY drainage system seems to be working.

Sharon says there’s a production delay due to a manufacturer error in the medication that Will needs for Rose. Sharon still says she’ll see what she can do, but once she’s gone, Vanessa tells Will that she knows someone who has access to pharmaceutical drugs who gave them to college kids who needed it. She knows they’re desperate, and wonders if he’d be able to get the drug that Rose needs. Will warns her that it’s illegal and that they could lose their licenses. Will says that he can’t do it that way.

Hannah shows Archer the CT results, and it shows that it was appendicitis the whole time. Archer is surprised, and tells Hannah to call the OR. Hannah agrees, as long as she can join him in case anything goes wrong. She’s clearly upset that he underestimated her opinion and possibly put her patient at risk.

Big Decisions with Drastic Results

Rose starts having issues, and Will and Vanessa do their best to make her comfortable. Emmanuel, Rose’s husband, begs Will to do whatever it takes to help Rose. Will shares a look with Vanessa, and Vanessa rushes out and calls someone.

Dr. Greenwell tells Dr. Charles that he’s been reading about sporadic fatal insomnia, or SFI, something that starts with struggling to sleep until it leads to death. Dr. Greenwell is convinced that he has it, and is terrified of what will happen to him. Dr. Charles suggests that he gets tested to know for sure, but Dr. Greenwell doesn’t want to know, because his life will be over and he won’t know how to function with that knowledge. Dr. Charles suggests that Dr. Greenwell do it to get some clarity, whether the results are good or bad. This convinces Dr. Greenwell to go forward with the test.

Vanessa gives Will the medication, promising that it’s the real deal. Will doesn’t want it; he doesn’t want to be involved in the crime. Vanessa doesn’t know how she’ll explain it away on the chart, but Vanessa knows that Rose is going to die without any help. Reluctantly, Will takes the pills and tells Emmanuel that he didn’t get it the right way, but he can’t legally give them to her. Will says it’s his decision, and that him and Vanessa can’t know about it, but they’ll check in in a little bit.

A Weight Off Of The Chest

Jack talks to Crockett about how he doesn’t understand how his train did this, and tries to blame it on the tunnel instead. Crockett goes to help Nathaniel, and Jack asks him why he even came down there. Crockett doesn’t know. Jack tells Crockett that he made the Hypertrain to change the world, and that he put on a face that it was to help people, but in all honesty, he just wanted another fortune. He admits to being selfish and that being what guided him through his life. He praises Crockett for being selfless, but Crockett says he is far from it.

Herrmann shouts to them, and they’ve finally made it through and can get the three men out of the train.

Dr. Greenwell tests negative for SFI, and he is more than relieved to hear that. He thanks Dr. Charles, but tells him that they made need to stop seeing each other because they breached boundaries. Dr. Charles says he’d like to keep talking with him, that this experience humanized Dr. Greenwell and made him realize that Dr. Greenwell is one of the few therapists that wants to listen.

Ethan tells Kai that in Afghanistan, they had to use bottles since they didn’t have supplies. Ethan says that both Archer and Crockett are great teachers.

Archer tells Hannah that Candace was lucky to have a good doctor. He won’t admit that he’s talking about Hannah, but his way of extending an olive branch is by saying that she doesn’t need to do the weekly drug tests anymore, to which Hannah seems very happy.

Will and Vanessa tell Emmanuel and Rose that Rose’s infection is resolving. They thank the doctors, but once Will and Vanessa leave them, Will tells Vanessa that nobody can ever know what they’ve done.

Crockett goes to Dr. Blake’s place instead of heading to Med, but her daughter answers and says that she’s already gone. She says that Dr. Blake didn’t want to talk to Crockett, so he asks her to give her a message for him. Crockett admits to not being honest with himself or her, that his decision that nearly cost her her job was selfish. As he leaves, Crockett smiles slightly, seeming to feel the weight that’s been dragging him down finally lifted off of his shoulders once he admitted the truth to himself.
